At that price it should have a 1080p screen.

It's more usable thanks to the its bezels. The screen though is rubbish, you can buy some Chinese tablets for less and still have a much better screen.

Downside is you may discover that said Chinese tablet does not work properly after waiting a month and returning it / getting your money back is a hassle.

Still, agree on the screen especially for that price point.

This IS a Chinese tablet. It's built by TCL Corporation, the company where all zombie brands go to die (Alcatel, BlackBerry, etc.).

I'd recommend grabbing an Amazon Fire HD 10 when the're on sale for $99. Install the Play Store and launcher hijack apk so you can run Nova Launcher. I have been using one almost daily since November 2017 as personal media viewer and dollar for dollar it's the handiest gadget I've ever owned.

Low-end Android tablets aren't dead; they are just dominated by Amazon.

I have a fire HD 7 which is just great for reading, web surfing, watching a video, etc. I can even pack a cheap bluetooth mouse and keyboard and use it as a terminal for software development. I throw it in my gym bag and use it to read the OBD II data from my car. When it breaks I might cry but I can get a new one for under $50.

There is glory to be had in flagship phones, but Amazon retreated from the failure of the Fire phone and has the money to subsidize the Fire line to support other services. While that is the case it is hard for anybody else to make money on low-end tablets, either Android or Windows-based.

    179 is considered entry level?!

That's like top of the line Shield tablet from 5 yrs ago!

I got $30 fire 7 tablets, those are entry level! Anything over $100 is hardly entry level, come on.

Shield tablets were $300 when they came out, I believe. I had one and it wasn't $180.

Make one with wireless charging! I'm still using my HP TouchPad because there literally is no 10" tablet with wireless charging that's newer.
  • shabby - Tuesday, February 26, 2019 - link

How many days does it take to charge wirelessly?
  • piroroadkill - Wednesday, February 27, 2019 - link

It's actually really efficient, I take it you've never used one. It's not hard to line up, either. Horizontal or portrait. It's the only way I ever charge it. It's always on the stand...

    Equipped with a 10-inch IPS display featuring a 1280x800

A 16:9 low res display again. Stopped reading at that.
    Next one, please.

This is a 100$ phone is a 200$ tablet chassis.
  • blu42 - Tuesday, February 26, 2019 - link

This is not an entry-level tablet. You can get a perfectly usable 2-in-1 chromebook for $230.

I'd spend an extra £20 (£199) and get a Lenovo Tab4 10 Plus. It has a 1920x1200 screen, Snapdragon SOC, and better battery life.
