I built a machine using an older version of this board (dual core) for websurfing/netflix purposes. It's pretty snappy and handles those tasks without issue, so I imagine this would work even better. Couldn't beat the price, got it on sale for I think $45.

how did you get through this article without telling us the uarch of the cpu/gpu components?

The title literally says "BIOSTAR goes Carrizo". Carrizo = 8th-gen heavy machinery mobile APUs, pre-Ryzen, with GCN 1.3 graphics IIRC.

Literally the first link is an explanation of the Carrizo uarch.

How did this guy get through the first paragraph without picking that up?

Kind of wish they had gone with ddr3 for a value product like this.

True at first sight : maybe now DDR3 is still cheaper than DDR4.

But in the past 2 decades, I saw how going from SDR to DDR , DDR to DDR2 and so on ... the older tech became more expensive than the newer one, because of the low production/stock numbers.

Yup, still have plenty of that laying around

I find it strange to see a Carrizo these days and not Bristol Ridge.

That's a nice little motherboard and processor, though I do have misgivings about single threaded performance and the idea of going back to AMD's old quad core architecture using only one FPU per pair of integer units. However, if the price is right when these hit the shelves, one might make a viable ITX system around it. The use of DDR4 might help feed an otherwise bandwidth starved iGPU as well.

Yeah, if they're around the same price as Intel Atom based boards this is a steal.
  • Haawser - Saturday, January 26, 2019 - link

Yeah, would far rather have this than any embedded Atom board.

    What year is this, 2004?
