Good god are those prices set to gouge corporate purchasing depts, compared to the bare card on amazon the enclosure adds $2600, $3900, $1800, or $1600 to the total purchase price.
What are you talking about? Nobody is bound to buy this product. They're not gonna cut their fingers off to do it. The product will just fail if it doesn't offer value.
In any case, one can buy just the enclosure separately for $999 from the OSS web site. That only has a 300 W power supply, though, and it's $110 extra for a thunderbolt cable. Basically, the enclosure and installation charges seem like they should be about $1500. Dell is charging $5,500 for a Quadro P6000. So, yeah, it somehow doesn't look like a good deal at $8,100.
I'm surprised we haven't seen a docking station w/ EGPU housing or anything like that from Razer, AW, MSI, Origin, etc. EGPU's are great and all for those with laptops but they tend to be unwieldy and comparable in size to a SFF PC. Sometimes slightly bigger. A docking station while not gonna help with the size, may help with the packaging. These EGPU's looked interesting until I saw the stupid pricing. WTH? Nope nope nope.
