I hoped it would come with inscreen fingerprint sensor which will make it at least a wee bit interesting, I stopped caring completely when it didn't.

Bingo. Stopped caring about Samsung after they moved fingerprint to the back after S7.

For me to consider anything from them again would need front fingerprint and removal of idiotic edge curved glass.

Agree, removal or replaceable batteries was bad enough, now the stupid curved glass.

I don't mind as long as the Active line continues.

The flat screen and larger battery are kinda awesome.

I'd be completely OK with the battery thing, if the battery could still be removed by a normal person without basically breaking the phone in half.

    The perfect phone needs:
Pro version with 1.25-1.5x battery over stock (3750mAh for example)
Ridiculously low drain/great battery life (like I've seen on A5, like 18hrs+ screen on time)
Waterproofing (obviously, for rain, spills, bathrooms, sports, accidentally leaving the phone outside)... Water damage is a common repair...
FRONT SPEAKERS. CUPPING YOUR HAND AROUND A REAR SPEAKER IS !!!STUPID!!! STUPID!!!!!!
In-screen fingerprint reader would be nice.
Wireless charging would be nice - charge port fix is one of the most common repairs.

Once they make a phone like that, I'll maybe consider paying $1000+, plus $100 larger internal memory, plus $30 case, plus the $100+ for the inevitable screen replacement (since we insist on using breakable screens).

Before then, nooooo way in hell. No way would I ever buy a $1000 phone and have to cup my hand around the back like an idiot to hear anything.

USB-C takes care of the charge port issues mostly. You'd have to try really hard to trash that port. Hopefully nobody will ship new stuff with micro USB garbage.

Yeah, quick charge is also pretty good. And you can't use the phone while wireless charging anyways

Waterproofing is just a nice addon for an expensive phone... I've never used a waterproof phone and thought "Gee, I really wish this didn't have waterproofing.".

If you find a phone line that, WITH a stylus, I'll buy 1.

    Exactly my thoughts.

It took me around 1,5 seconds in the store with the first Galaxy phone that used the edge glass to realise how bad of an idea it was - the reflections were all over the sides of the display.

I am pretty sure that next year we will see an in-display fingerprint reader from Samsung, but it seems like they "edge display" is there to stay for the time being. Voting with our wallets is all we can do really.

I boycotted Sammy after they curves edges. My wife's gone through 3 broken galaxy screens and that's with Case

I'm happy with an old screen flat screen on my Pixel 2 XL. Say no to infinity edge gimmicks.

I totally agree but what is there aside from Samsung? All the other options are worse.

Going with any of the Chinese brands is gambling on the device never choking or you'll be in a 6 month limbo of atrocious customer service, which is something that tragically goes entirely unmentioned in near enough all reviews of the things. The Pixel looks like Mr. Incredible's face. If you do more than vomit pics onto Facebook and Instagram the iPhone is a no-go, and everything else has this habit of considering reliable, consistent updates for a minimum of two years detrimental to their bottom line.

I'm literally still using my Oneplus One because none of the shyte these companies are pushing are worth the upgrade.

My other half just moved from her beloved OnePlus One to the OnePlus Six. She has no complaints.

I just bought a Note 8 for like $800 AUD about a month ago because I was tired of waiting... My Note 5 was also starting to get tired.
Not to mention the "leaked" improvements with the Note 9 was pretty average... Plus I save about $400-$600 AUD by buying a device that is a year old at this point.

The S-Pen might also become a Bluetooth device so we can control other devices as well with the Note 9... But overall, it's just more of the same.

At-least the jump from my Note 5 to Note 8 was a sizable one, even though Samsung skipped the Note 6 and the Note 7 got recalled.

I think for the Note 10, we will need the under-screen fingerprint scanner, better cameras, full body display... And I would like for a return to a 16:9 aspect ratio, even if the phone ends up wider... Most of the content I consume is 16:9, so the wider screen is essentially wasted.

What the hell does anyone need 1tb of storage on a phone for?
  • StrangerGuy - Friday, August 3, 2018 - link

For that somebody who gotta show off his new expensive toy every year so others can go "woooooooow" for like 10 seconds before moving on with their lives.
  • MarkieGcolor - Friday, August 3, 2018 - link

These devices are meant to last 2 years. There is no reason to hoard data on them. It's depressing to think about building up 1tb of priceless data on a phone. Hasn't anyone who this would have appealed to 5 years ago moved on to the cloud?

Like shoe space, there is oestensibly no limit to the amount of space women need for photos and videos.
  • mkozakewich - Saturday, August 4, 2018 - link

This always bothers me. SDXC supports up to 2 TB, so technically this phone is "2.5TB-ready".
