Disappointed that there is no 2TB version. Want a large and (relatively) cheap SSD.

Large and cheap? That's still mostly 2.5" territory, although there are some M.2 SATA drives that are pretty close. Like the WD Blue M.2 SATA 2TB.

    PCIE: Samsung 970 EVO $800
    M2: WD Blue 3D NAND 2TB PC SSD $400
    SSD: Micron 1100 MTFDDAK2T0TBN-1AR1ZABYY $300

Sheesh, now we're quoting QD64 numbers. As if QD32 wasn't already deceptive enough for "consumer"-targeted 'cheap' drives like this...

One of these days, someone should undertake a giant class-action lawsuit against all these vendors, for blatantly deceptive advertising.

QD64 is a perfectly reasonable metric for the use case of storing the data for an extremely overtaxed corporate database server on this M.2 SSD.

"However, the XG6 does support user-configurable overprovisioning using a new standard command from the NVMe 1.3a specification"
-> What is the difference/advantage of this compared to just creating a partition of xx% of the full drive and having the spare area that way? :)

Unformatted user accessible space and space for over provisioning which is not available for formatting are treated differently.
  • CheapSushi - Tuesday, July 24, 2018 - link

Because now you just have a partition there doing nothing rather than the drive itself in a smart managed way doing a proper job on increasing the drives longevity.

What's the respective die sizes for their 256Gb and 512Gb 96L dies? BiCS bit density is way behind the competition.
