Wow a phone....very much like many other phones.

Why bother? All much of a muchness now.
  • peevee - Tuesday, February 6, 2018 - link

Nah, this one is specifically targeted at the morons. "updated software - making eyes pop and cheeks glow"... #beyourselfie...

Price is very much UNLIKE other phones. Is it really worth it to pay 4x for a Sumsung or iPhone when the features they add don't make much difference to the average user compared to a Chinese phone like this? Of course, a lot of users want the brand halo as a status symbol...so they must pay...
  • Cliff34 - Tuesday, February 6, 2018 - link

Yes, this I agree. The price point for this phone is very attractive. It is comparable to any phone w/ SD625. We are living in the days where phones are going for 1,000+. A phone like this for average users and those who don't want to spend on the latest and greatest is a good deal.

It's cheap. it has a good resolution screen, it has 4 cameras enabling DoF and maybe stereoscopic view.
Those are some things set it apart from others, some others are cheap but have a low res screen, or only one camera et cetera.

Now if you are bored with the whole phone thing like many rightfully are you have the option to scroll to the next articles and save yourself the trouble of writing a comment stating the obvious, i.e.. that many people like you are bored with phones

I find the "for the brave" slogan to be counterproductive when it is applied to the consumer mobile phone thing. Last thing I need from my communication device is to somehow challenge me.
  • peevee - Tuesday, February 6, 2018 - link

Well, if you phone makes your eyes pop, you need to be very brave...

Now I am worried about the glowing cheeks part.

I’m always amazed how companies with billions of dollars in cash can’t afford a designer who knows not to put ultra thin white type on a bright turquoise background, or that it the same background might not be very helpful when trying to present new product colors like a bright grey and a shade of blue.

You should see that presentation live first before commenting and not on some poorly shot, highly compressed fotos made with a mobile phone.
  • damianrobertjones - Wednesday, February 7, 2018 - link

    What are fotos?
  • xype - Wednesday, February 7, 2018 - link

As if putting badly designed slides on a huge screen will somehow make them good? Look at the big ass slide type here and tell me whether that’s easy to read: https://twitter.com/GizmoManiacs/status/9535346046...
  • WorldWithoutMadness - Wednesday, February 7, 2018 - link

Err... you're commenting a photo of a glossy reflective screen being bad? Right...

You should ask why they can't afford to use projector, the space should be enough, judging by the 2nd photo
  • xype - Wednesday, February 7, 2018 - link

I’m not complaining about the photo quality but the bad design of the slides. The slides suck on a projector as well, that narrow font is hell to read: https://twitter.com/GizmoManiacs/status/9535346046... or the following tweets.

They should make a special HonoUr edition for the UK...

For a launch in the UK, it's always amusing that we spell it differently here :)

In 21st century you no longer compensate with your car.

Just 3 Gb of RAM is something that will hamper this phone. 4 Gb is standard minimum now with new not top-of-the-price-range phones from the likes of Huewei, Honor and PlusOne releasing models with 6 and even 8 Gb.
It is always a story that has been told time after time with limited RAM being something that is the ting that is really weakening an older phone as newer Android versions and "meatier" apps and background services is eating up more RAM as time goes by...
Amount of RAM is often the first thing I look for when upgrading to a new Android phone.
  • jabber - Wednesday, February 7, 2018 - link

For those of us that just run the usual core apps, 3GB is plenty. A lot of us don't play games on our phones.
  • UtilityMax - Friday, February 9, 2018 - link

I haven't seen a proof that 3GB of RAM is not enough for a daily driver phone. I had an Honor 6X, and I could open chrome with 10 tabs and 5 other apps in the background and I never felt lag switching between them.

What annoys me are the reviewers. The Nokia 1020 was released in 2013 and yet, supposedly, a phone such as the Huawei p10 Plus has an amazing camera (According to reviewers and youtube).

It's basically a pile of rubbish compared to a phone that arrived 5 years previous. Low light shots are not even close.

Why is this? By now phone cameras should be absolutely stunning and, in some cases, they are but overall they're not.
