I can see self-driving cars and robots being mainstream before this tech does. Where biology and tech interfaces, the physical limitations are difficult to overcome.
If it was as light weight as google glass maybe, but that seems to have vanished.
Google Glass was the subject of a lot of backlash over privacy concerns. People were using them in places and ways that were problematic and were then dealing with physical violence in some cases. It generated a lot of bad press for the company at a time when the general population was more concerned with digital privacy and data collection. Last I heard, Alphabet pulled development out of view of the public, but still had plans to continue working on the technology. It had limited battery life and utility anyway so Glass really needed some additional development beyond just overcoming public perceptions.
You can already buy replacement foam for the headset. Still trying to figure why the "Pro" is twice the cost of the regular version you can get right now.
Hand it to Microsoft to utterly fail at launching this. They had what like five or more major OEM's onboard pushing headsets and what... I'd be surprised if they have 2000 active headsets between them.
