Others that make DDIC might disagree with this line of thinking and Synaptics itself has made DDIC less interesting, with TDDI. They need to (and will) go TDDI with OLED and then likely integrate FP too.
The FP thing is far more interesting though, an optical sensor through the display stack. Next they go full screen somehow- really curious how they scale it in a cost effective way- and then , why not, maybe expand the capability of this optical sensor beyond FP. Ofc one can argue that smarphones are on their way out and we need solutions for glasses and that's fair enough.
It's likely they'll want to keep it in a controlled portion of the screen (like the bottom navigation bar) so that it's impossible for sites to clickjack. That's one of the main problems with all-screen interfaces today.

It's going full screen, that's the roadmap not an assumption.Will be convenient, the user doesn't even have to know that it's there.
