These laptops have premium specs -- latest gen Core i7, 16GB RAM, at least 512GB NVMe SSD -- and Samsung only offers FHD (1920 x 1080) screens? Even on the 15" model.

It's not like they're cheap -- past models start in the $1,000+ range. And Samsung wonders why they barely sell any in the US.

Is Samsung officially selling them in the US at all? The last time I saw an article about Samsung laptops it noted that they weren't being released in the US.
  • digiguy - Friday, December 15, 2017 - link

Yes DanNeely Samsung stopped selling laptops in Europe, but not in the US. I am in Europe and had to buy my Notebook 9 in the US....

Man, FHD is the best choice for battery life. Do you know what it means FHD+75Wh battery+8th gen chips: the longest battery life in any ultrabook ever... This is going to be longer than Surface book 2 and even than the new Windows on arm devices. I have the 2017 model, and boy that screen is awesome, it beats my surface pro 3 screen, so no, resolution isn't everything... not even most of it...

How's your battery life on the 2017 model?
  • mcmxcii - Saturday, December 16, 2017 - link

I have the Notebook 9 Pro, FHD.
    The resolution is perfect.

4k would render the icons too small.
And it will drain the battery as well.

Am I crazy, or is 75Wh in a thin, bezelless, 13" laptop basically unheard of?
  • GC2:CS - Friday, December 15, 2017 - link

Yeah been asking that too, isn’t it more fitting to the 15” model ?

A MacBook got 41,4 and similar proportions, 75 has to last like a weeek.

Maybe. Did a few checks, Dell only has 60Wh in the XPS13. Lenovo comes closer with the 70Wh in the Yoga 900 series, but that's with a 13.9" screen so slightly larger. HP's using puny 46W ones in their ultrabooks. Asus is using 39 or 46Wh ones. The Acer ones I looked at are even more pitiful.

The Lenovos aren't particularly efficient: https://www.notebookcheck.net/Lenovo-Yoga-900-13IS...

I remember looking at Yoga reviews and was happy for their capacious batteries but the reviews weren't showing great battery life despite those figures. Their very high end seems to do well, but for the most part they fizzle.

I think they've launched the battery they developed just a while back: http://mashable.com/2017/11/28/samsung-graphene-ba...

Maybe that's what "HexaCell" is. Hope it doesn't end up in flames, though...

Yes and as I said above FHD+75Wh battery+8th gen chips: the longest battery life in any ultrabook ever. The 2017 15" had 66wh and was already on par with Surface book with performance base, so this one will be even better

It's amazing that they managed to more than double the battery of the 13.3 version with only 0.4 pounds more, or 200gr more (1kg in total). Many manufacturers go all in with marketing and don't care about user experience (Asus I am talking to you and your crazy high resolutions, poor battery life and lack of ports) other are poor at marketing laptops, like Samsung, but produce what are probably the best ultrabooks on the market. I have the 2017 notebook 9 and I keep comparing it to the others and still can't find a and overall better one... And now they made it even better....

Love the S-pen, but adding it removes 36Wh of battery capacity.
  • digiguy - Friday, December 15, 2017 - link

Yes, but it's not just the S pen, it's the 360° hinge and the touch screen glass. The 2017 modol (notebook 9 pro 13.3) weighted 3 pounds (1.3 kg) with a 54wh battery. Now it's 2.2 pounds (1kg). I think weight is more important that battery in a convertible if you use it as a tablet. Especially since you can charge with phone chargers and power banks, contrary to most usb c laptops...

Efficiency is just as important as battery capacity. 39WHr would be perfectly acceptable if it achieves 8-9 hours of battery life. Just don't get back to the days of 5-6 hours please!

Looks like a good lineup, definitely liking the big battery trend with this and the newly announced LG laptops. A higher dpi option wouldn't hurt for those that want it, but I'd be happy with 1080p at 13".

But what is a "RealView" display? I wish instead of these BS marketing terms they'd just stick to specifying the panel type (ie: IPS, PLS, TN).
Also, hope these aren't overpriced, but not optimistic about this given their tablet and phone pricing.

These battery capacities really make the current Macbook Pros with their shrunken batteries look bad!
