Ugh, another freesync monitor with the same specs as year old gsync monitors, but no word on when the 3440x1440p200Hz or 4k144Hz Gsync HDR monitors are coming out
It seems like the bump in average TV size is *not* improving economies of scale for monitor OEMs. Samsung has one freesync2 monitor with their own panel, and everyone else seems to be waiting on a much-delayed AUO panel. :( At this point I'd spring for a 4k TV and live with the lag... But they don't even make them smaller than 50" now if you want any advanced features. I can't use a screen that big. :(
The issue is with how poorly Windows interacts with expanded color spaces/gamuts. OSX presumably works well, although I don't use OSX so I can't verify.
July 2016 pics and legit specs talk about it from Suposed Asus. Jan 2017 announced. It's been over a year and half. Same thing with gsync monitors in 2013, waited almost 2 years for it, felt like forever. They will pull the same shit here. Anything game changer they will dangle until it's stuck in your head.
Actually nothing has been said about a release time frame about it. Asus is mum on it. Rumor is panel supply is not good enough yet to release it. AS for price, that $2000 was listed on a KR website briefly. So no one knows if its US money or what yet.
I suspect they know demand will be HIGH so they are waiting till ample stock before release.
Anybody can recommend decent 30-32'' monitor, ISP, more than 60Hz refresh rate with decent colours suitable for gaming and also design / photography at around $1000 ?
did a quick search on amazon, and there aren't a lot of choices. The LG looks to have the best reviews. LG 32UD59-B 32-Inch 4K UHD IPS LED-Lit Monitor with FreeSync
That's only 60hz freesync. AFAIK there aren't any 4k >60hz monitors on the market yet. The ones announced this spring are all stuck because AUO hasn't been able to get the panel they're using into production. Current ETA for them is q1 of next year; but that's dependent on the panel being in production now I haven't seen anything to confirm it is.
That's only a 27" panel, AUO is planning to have a 32" one with HDR but 60hz shortly after the 27" 4k 144hz HDR one is out; but thier 32 4k 144hz HDR panel is a year beyond that. The continued delay, combined with the expectation that 384 zone HDR will make the panels stupidly expensive pushed me to order the Acer xb321hk yesterday. (32", 4k, 60hz, Gsync)
Heh, the protracted delays pushed me to order the same one for $700 almost a year later... Good sweet spot for now given my mixed use (gaming and amateur photo work).
I just don't understand the freesync fascination. I'd be willing to bet an overwhelming majority of the people interested in these monitors such as these are using nvidia cards and get zero benefit from freesync.
Because Freesync doesn't cost monitor manufacturers anything (or very little) while G-Sync adds $200-300 to the price. As a gamer, it's a compelling argument to offer virtually the same experience for $200-300 less.
yeah but they aren't even releasing GSYNC models in tandem with the Freesync models. Who cares if it costs $200 more, put it up for sale at the same time as the freesync models and let consumers vote with their wallet. Asus knows freesync is unpopular, thats why they won't release them at the same time. They are pulling the "rockstar games" of computer hardware. Nvidia has 70% of the discrete GPU market.
Your comment makes no sense. They don't put both up for sale as nobody wants to spend extra on g sync anymore.
The monitors with g sync are popular not because of g sync. Everyone I know who owns one (including myself) uses it with vsync and gsync off for reduced input lag. Freesync monitors make a lot more sense as you don't have to pay extra.
"Turn gsync off for reduced input lag" LOL! Never heard of this one before. M8 you do realize the input lag with gsync is less than 1ms. Not even lasers can catch that. The true high end market does wait for gsync. Been there, knows them all. Gsync & 144hz+ is everything.
It was easy to scoff at the AMD marketing fluff, but having just bought a 1070 without settling in a new monitor purchase first... G-Sync is a huge pain to buy. Not just expense, either; you're basically locked into the offerings from gaming-centric OEMs like Asus. At least Freesync gives you some options...
A lot of the g sync demand was driven by youtube etc. Find people who own them and use the feature and enjoy it... not many. G sync would be a great free added feature. Paying extra for it is useless until it adds the HDR and other features.
Me and my pair of 1080ti's are still waiting for a 34" to 40", OLED (4k ofcourse) monitor. Oh well, at least they don't have to work very hard at 3440x1440.
when will these manufacturers stop doing gimmicky curvatures and provide actual usable curvature. Where the edges are at least closer in distance as the center.
The panel makers have to figure out how to bend an LCD that tightly without causing problems/breaking. That's still a work in progress, but progress is being made. The current generation of 1800R panels are twice as bent at the previous 3600R ones.
PG348Q based on an IPS panel and offering several advantages over the new displays is now available for less than $1,000. Your link shows it 40%more lol $1399
FYI Dell is selling a 3440*1440 oc 120hz gsync display with ips for $999 and a 2560*1440 @144hz gsync display for $399
Monoprice has a 4k freesync with hdr 10 compatible 27 inch display for $249 comparison gsync display sells for $799

It's daft how there are tons of 4K HDR TVs out there, but no (or barely any) HDR PC monitors.BiggerInside - Tuesday, November 28, 2017 - link

Yup. And the few HDR monitors available cost more than the 4k HDR TVs. Economies of scale I guess.roderrooder - Tuesday, November 28, 2017 - link
