A NUC clone with Core CPU and two Intel gigabit LAN chips, possibly the best pfSense box ever for people with gigabit fiber.

The TDP may be the same but the power consumption of the quad core U series in the Dell XPS 13 is much higher than the dual core Kaby Lake.
This is an issue for a passively cooled device so it may not offer much real world gain.
Would need to see the thermals for this first to see what headroom it has if any.

Ryzen 2500-2700U will pretty much murder intel low power line up. 4cores/8thread + Vega igpu.

That will be very interesting to see although I am not sure it will win the pure CPU tests.

"Meanwhile, if someone needs an HDMI 2.0 output ...they will need to get the more advanced Cubi 3 Silent S"

Those $20 DP1.2->HDMI2.0 active adapters work great these days, you could use one of those with the cheap model too.

I guess AnandTech or Purch get a bonus from manufacters selling people on the most expensive variant.

"Meanwhile, if someone needs an HDMI 2.0 output (a very likely scenario) to connect them to a 4K UHD TV, they will need to get the more advanced Cubi 3 Silent S with an appropriate connector."

Why do that when you can get the cheaper variant and use a DP-HDMI adapter?

Do you know if those adapters support HDCP 2.2, which is a necessity for almost all UHD vdeo content?
I haven't foud a test that confirms it yet.

Literally the first link on Google gives an adapter with HDCP 2.2 support:

    https://www.amazon.com/Club3D-Displayport-1-2-HDMI...
  • andychow - Tuesday, October 31, 2017 - link

Literally the first review of that product states that it's not HDCP compliant: "Update 2/7/2016: Does not appear to be HDCP compliant. Connecting the HTPC through this adapter to a Sony HT-RT5 (HDCP 2.2) soundbar resulted in no sound."

    Is fully Linux support?
