Really interested in the noise levels.

I have two of the GTX 1070 Mini ITX 8G cards that look just like this. Honestly I don't hear them under an EK Predator 240mm with Vardar fans. They just aren't noisy.

I came from a watercooled build with 8x gentle typhoon 1850rpm fans at somewhere like 1200rpm.

Too bad it isn't a blower of some sort. Blowers are basically required in a small ITX case. However, I understand the technical hurdles of making a blower on such a short card. But they could still do it by making the cooling shroud thicker.
  • HomeworldFound - Sunday, September 3, 2017 - link

You have a good point. The 1070 cards are blowers. This card seems to have gotten rid of that in favor of the extra DVI port.

I've always wondered why people say this.

I've always put normal dual-fan GPUs in my ITX cases and never had any problem with heat. They are quieter than the blower fans too which is why I still choose them.

You really won't need to care with the 1070 cards, they just never get noisy. Vardar fans are worse. I don't know the noise level of the 1080 versions.

The Zotac 1080 ti mini has 45 percent minimum fan speeds, and I imagine the Zotac 1080 version is also bad.

Here's to hoping that the Gigabyte one is actually quite while web browsing.
  • Alistair - Saturday, September 2, 2017 - link

    quiet while browsing...

"the GIGABYTE 1080 Mini ITX features a semi-passive 90mm fan (turning off under certain loads/temperatures)"

    so it's 0db when browsing
  • Samus - Sunday, September 3, 2017 - link

My RX380 actually stays completely off in just about anything BUT games. It waits to hit 60c before turning on. It takes a semi-heavy, prolonged load to reach 60c even in my tiny case. For example, some games like Warcraft III don't even seem to use 3D (the card temps barely increase from idle) and various other light-weight games like Axiom Verge take about 20 minutes to get the card to wake up the fans.
  • Lolimaster - Sunday, September 3, 2017 - link

If you config the games to not exceed 60fps in situation where it would reach 200-300fps it should consume barely above idle.

    That DVI port, why? Really.
  • HomeworldFound - Saturday, September 2, 2017 - link

Why not? You already have 3 display ports and an hdmi port.
  • milli - Saturday, September 2, 2017 - link

Anybody gonna hook up 5 monitors on this?
  • jordanclock - Saturday, September 2, 2017 - link

Five monitors isn't the only scenario you would need DVI. Any scenario where you need to connect one DVI monitor is valid. I can understand questioning such a connector on a high end card that will likely go into a high end monitor with HDMI or DP, but options are options and it's nice to see all digital outputs on a single card.

DVI does convert to VGA natively if it's a DVI-D. It's also a dual link port which is good for many legacy production monitors (like those older 2560x1600p HP's)
  • milli - Sunday, September 3, 2017 - link

"DVI does convert to VGA natively if it's a DVI-D" - No it doesn't. You're mixing that up with DVI-I which none of these cards has.

HDMI natively converts to DVI, so there really is no need for a big ass DVI port on these cards.
  • Ro_Ja - Sunday, September 3, 2017 - link

It would be sad if the card didn't come with an adapter for it.

Whenever I connect a PC monitor to a GPU via HDMI, it keeps using asinine settings such as limited colourspace range, overscan, and YUV instead of RGB. When I eventually replace my DVI equipment, I'll be using DP.
  • Death666Angel - Monday, September 4, 2017 - link

HDMI (or for that matter DP) to dual link DVI adapters are a pain to find though. And considering the prevalence of Korean oc'd WQHD monitors with DVI-only inputs or old-ish 30" 1600p monitors, I support this configuration.
  • Nate Oh - Tuesday, September 5, 2017 - link

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned this, but Pascal supports a max of 4 monitors per-card.
  • peterfares - Sunday, September 3, 2017 - link

Costs them very little to include but DisplayPort to dual-link DVI adapters aren't cheap. Older high-res monitors only accept dual-link DVI.
  • hapkiman - Sunday, September 3, 2017 - link

  • timecop1818 - Sunday, September 3, 2017 - link

For fucks sake when will the fucking DVI port be removed and forgotten. I refuse to buy any graphics card with DVI on it which means I have to spend extra $$ on shit like Quadro cads
  • jordanclock - Sunday, September 3, 2017 - link

Why refuse to get cards with DVI? I don't know of any card that would have more DP/HDMI ports if the DVI were removed.
  • Mugur - Monday, September 4, 2017 - link

Every entry level GTX 1050/Ti or Radeon RX550/560, etc. have 1 DP, 1 HDMI and 1 DVI. So, in my case at work (3x25" 1440p Dells, no DVI ports), I need to go with a higher end card (no need for 3D at work) or a professional one to have 3 DP ports. Or resort to daisy chain for DP which is hit and miss...
  • Mugur - Monday, September 4, 2017 - link

And I have a mini ITX desktop, forgot to mention that.
  • Death666Angel - Monday, September 4, 2017 - link

You are commenting on an article about a card that will likely cost upwards of 500USD. You think you need to spend more money on a graphics for 3 non-DVI outputs. Yet I find a 130€ Quadro P400 with 3 miniDP 1.4 ports and a 120€ 1050 with 3xHDMI 2.0b, 1xDP1.4 and even 1xDVI. That is 4 non-DVI inputs with the chance of a 5th using a DVI monitor or a converter of some sort. What are you guys talking about?
  • timecop1818 - Monday, September 4, 2017 - link

closest thing to gtx1050 is quadro p1000 and it's not cheap. p400/600 are really really limited.

i would say p1000 is minimum in a several-4k-screens config, and i opted for p2000 just in case. which is a lot more than gtx1050 (or even 1060) despite actually using same PCB as 1060, including footprint for dvi connector.
