are you kidding me? that thing is sick. Look at the craftsmanship.. I know the price is high, but i've never seen a SLI laptop look that good. The keyboard and keyboard top plate really look good.

I'm still stuck with my Alienware 18, which is an 1080p 18.4" panel, because I *need* a large screen as this is my work tool. I broke, and tried to pull the plug on an Alienware 17 with GTX1080 last month when in the states, but Dell couldn't ship in time, gladly.
I really want another large-screen laptop, but I want it thinner like the XPS 15, so I guess I'll be using this AW18 for the forseeable future then.
Then you'd be living out of 2 suitcases :). I get the whole "power on the go" concept but this? You can't carry it every day so I assume you have to be living in a hotel for months at a time. For $9000 you're better off buying a PC and shipping it where you need it :).
It's a 9Kg laptop. Add to it accessories and the case and you end up with something that's simply not mobile. You can't use it without a (sturdy) table, you can't take it on the plane as hand luggage, most people would have a hard time carrying it comfortably from their house door to the taxi.
This is not the mobile workstation you're looking for :). It's an impractical concept which might have brought Acer some experience with building big machines. But for the consumer it's just a "collectible". Which is why they announced the limited run. Whoever buys it probably does so because only 300 are made, not to actually lug it around.
I do live out of hotels for months at a time. When it was all on expenses, I was platinum on most hotel chains. Per diem changes all that. Just his year I've done UK, Thailand, HK & mainland China , Colombia, and got back from Japan two weeks ago, and will be in South Korea on Tuesday. Last year was crazy too, year before not so much as I was busy with my Cisco certs. But that has been been my life since 1998, and so I'm on my 6th DTR machine.
My AW18 is <6kg. Power brick 1.8kg. Add a small bag of dongles, serial cables etc, and everything still feels OK in the Alienware backpack. The Mrs complains though if she has to retrieve it from the car, and so its not acceptable weight to everyone.
Imagine how many console windows you could have open with that wide screen...
PS: I tried carrying a PC around with me, it was not practicle. Monitor broke on the first journey, and I had much trouble at the check in desk as carry on
I think in your quest to tell your life story* you completely missed the point of both the article and my comment. This article isn't about your AW18, it's about a 21", ~9Kg (without accessories) and $9000 Acer that really needs a special pelican case to lug it around. One that you can never actually use on the go because your lap will disintegrate :). You really have to stretch the definition of mobility all the way to the Moon to consider this mobile. And keep in mind this laptop also isn't carry on luggage so chances are it will get lost on one flight or another.
You can get a better (small) PC for less than a quarter of the price and *ship* it to any of the 5-6-10 destinations you travel per year for another quarter. You can even go for a normal laptop and order a new $300 screen at every hotel and you'll still be able to travel for 3 years before you reach the price tag of this Acer.
*You're giving way too many irrelevant details for the topic in question. For example on the internet I drive a fleet of 8 Lambos, one for each day of the week. But in real life I mostly drive a freakin' Volvo :).
The problem is that offering to many "by the way" details tends to hide the point. For example you're a power user that doesn't need any of the "gaming" features - like a high powered GPU SLI or 120Hz screen. Why pay for them?
You can get away with a well spec'ed 15-17" business laptop/mobile workstation (high end CPU, good graphics, lots of RAM, and good SSD) and if screen area is absolutely vital you can get a good 27" screen delivered to every hotel (either bought new or simply FedEx it) and still be better of and a lot cheaper than this... whatever the Acer might call it. :)
The whole thing is a so called BGA Jokebook. Hope people have money left for extended warranty, if not... You will be very very screwed!! Limited Edition means as well *Limited options* for getting a used or a new MB replacement when the soldered hardware go up in smoke. And <if> you can find one of the limited Motheboards... What will it cost? This Jokebook cost $10550 usd here home. +$10000usd is damn costly for the 21" curved screen and the keyboard. No thanks!!
At the same time, with gross sales of this contraption maxing out at $2.7m before retailers take their cut, even at the stupidly high price they're charging I'm skeptical they're going to be able to earn out the R&D this thing set them back.

From the gallery shots in other articles here it doesn't appear there's anything to keep the gap from being a chute to collect dirt and debris.
Curved display is among the stupidest things anyone has ever invented in the modern times. just because it looks great in the IMAX it doesnt mean every tiny screen in the planet would benefit from being curved. It could be useful, however, if you only have one eye.
They make sense for wide eye-to-screen angles. TV's used in normal ways and laptop screens don't have very wide such angles - usually well below 40 degrees, so it makes no sense.
But a 40" monitor or TV-as-monitor that's 2 feet away - the setup I'm using right now - that's about 75-80 degrees, it's very nice. There's a reason why multimonitor setups angle each screen towards the user, thereby approximating a curve... the total eye-to-display angle is often north of 120 degrees.
If people were to start sitting really close to their TV screens, and content were developed with that wider angle in mind - as was done with the widescreen cinema formats - you might see a benefit. But we mostly use screens as windows-into-a-space, with lower angles, than as an immersive media. In that use case, you're right.
They missed their opportunity to market this as the "worlds first >GBE ethernet laptop" by putting the 2.5/5/10GB networking adapter in. Its not like the extra few bucks woulda hurt.
How bout they turn that pelican case into a fully upgradeable ruggedized workstation. Would be just as portable.
I turned a gorilla box into a bug out gaming/computer kit for when I deployed to a fob a few years ago. Mounted a XB 360, 24" Monitor to the lid, 110 and 220v Powerstrips, a 500watt up/down transformer, router, vonage modem, external HDD, laptop, portable proj,video switch box, and storage for games/controllers. Had wheels and a handle. Open lid, plug in power based on requirements, network cable, ready to go. Sling downloaded movies to the 360. Worked like a champ. For you 3CX/3DX people, I called it TDG-ICAP :D

I would have expected internal watercooling for performance and silence instead of 5 fans. That would have been a great engineering feat.
I have 3 inside my 17 X and they are truly like air dryers. I see from pictures they have created 1 more exhaust on each side for a total of 4 and I suppose the fifth one is for intake. It could be quite noisy to use it.
I've been trying to come up with something nice to say and have come up with this: I'm not a fan of curved screens however the curve might be a good thing on a laptop. The keys will never get anywhere near the screen when it is folded shut! Normally the keys on a typical laptop will rub on the screen and mark it over time if you are not very careful. This laptop's screen should never suffer this kind of damage so there is that...

all the extra videos and articles because of the nature is worth a lot of money.My problem with this laptop is the display resolution is to low. It should be at least 1440p ultrawide.
1080p ultrawide is just not very much for the GPU power.

Don't worry about divorce, after 1 or 2 hours that laptop would stall.I have the 17 X, as soon as you use it at full potential, you suck the battery dry.
Half of the luggage is for the power brick, mine is only 330W for 1.306 kg ( = 46.07 oz / 2.88 pounds). I guess this one needs 2 or 3 times that.
The Verge is reporting "presumably the world's biggest power brick ever".
