All I want is a generic digital watch face that has hours/minutes/seconds. Is that so much to ask? The only digital watch face that has seconds right now is the "Activity" watch face, which isn't great if you don't want the Activity stuff.
"why they are bothering with a new mac pro expandable config if their direction was to go with an imac pro."
Because some of their pro customers don't care about external monitors or expandability, and for them an imac pro works. For others, it doesn't. Also, they're shipping the imac pro this year, and the new new mac pro will not show until next year this time or later.
Storing your messages in the cloud and restoring them to your device... Verizon Messages+ already does this and it's pretty seamless. Of course having such things in the cloud isn't always such a good idea. For sensitive messages it is advised that you get the well known messaging apps that focus on privacy like Signal and Telegram... maybe Wickr as well.
Currently iMessage is as secure as Signal or Telegraph, and I doubt Apple's implementation would give up end-to-end local encryption like they have now
Telegraph has been hacked before and there is no guarantee for closed-source encryption, when we know that Apple among others has been giving the helping hand to NSA/NRO/CIA/GCHQ.
Isn't Apple the only tech company who didn't allow a back door? I mean, the FBI was suing them to unlock the San Bernardino shooter's phone. I don't like Apple one bit but let's give credit where credit is due.
Because it's Apple and their revenues and profit come from somewhere else... Desktops and even laptops are an afterthought to most manufacturers these days. Not enough profit, demand and growth, so they put less effort into them. Everybody wants to hop on the the next S-curve of growth, whatever it is (AR, AI, cars, etc) and away from shrinking profit and highly competed areas like computers.
Probably because Radeon Pro 450 - 460 has TDP around 30-35 Watt while GTX 1050 has around 50 Watt. Given the size of the chassis, quite and cool operation of the current models along with Apple probably wanting the device to be charged via USB-C (which has 100 Watt power delivery), they opted to go with Radeon Pro series. Nvidia recently released GTX 1030 (currently only desktop model) with a TDP of 30 Watt which is far slower than the graphics solutions on MacBook Pro 2016 & 2017.
As much as I would have liked Nvidia card better, Probably 2018 model with AMD Vega cards along with HBM2 memory will make quite nice computers.
I thought Apple was apologizing for the lack of upgradable hardware in the Mac Pro; and then I see the new lack of upgradeable hardware in the iMac Pro and think they have gone off the deep end in the ever growing need for svelte devices and thinner =/= better sometimes when you have to dissipate >500w in components (e.x. 18core processor +Vega approaches upper limit of that 500w)
You'll notice they had already mentioned that they were also coming out versions of the iMac with specs aimed more at pro users in that same interview.
Interesting to compare this with I/O a couple of weeks ago. Apple's stark, dark style is beginning to wear. Google is more fun and more forward-looking. There was literally nothing which made me go 'ooo' today. Nothing _announced_ goes beyond what Google _already offers_.
(Google Lens made me go 'ooo'.)
PS I wouldn't worry about cooling on those iMac Pros. Apple employs some very good thermal and aero engineers; they'll get it right.
Dude, get a Roku, or Amazon Firestick, cheaper and better options, or a Chromecast and just stream from any of your devices, no need to be locked in that Apple prison for basic streaming needs.
Still with that ridiculous OLED bar. A client I work for used to buy a lot of MBP for developers and the like, now no one wants them since they have been somewhat relegated to toy/gimmick status. Many are switching to Dell XPS or Thinkpad running Linux, others are just using the older models.
No location on/off or low battery mode on the control center? Seriously?! What year is this... Android had these from nearly the beginning. I'm a fan of streamlined menus and minimalist design, but hunting for location and low battery settings shouldn't still be a thing... Especially in the 11th major edition.
