Assuming retailers don't force bundled sales of a PSU and cable pack, I expect a huge number of returns and negative reviews from customers who just searched on wattage, modular cables, and then picked the one they thought would look prettiest through their case window.

Yeah, that's something that they'll have to clearly announce from the package so that users don't mistakenly buy something and return it.

I'm wondering if it would have been better for them to just sell different packages of the same PSU (one in each color variant of modular cables.)

The industry needs to standardize the internal PSU connectors, then you could just carry the cables from one PSU to the next.

UL requires all cables be grounded and keyed the same. But I know what you mean. Personally it drives me crazy then a PSU doesn't have color-coded wires (red, yellow, black, orange, etc) and they are just black, because even though we know where the ground wires are based on the keying, that doesn't mean an 8pin EPS connector is the same as an 8pin PCIe connector.

At these prices why would you ever pick these over a Seasonic/Corsair/EVGA/etc.?

Maybe it offers superior efficiency in their class, similar to the BitFenix Whisper M?
