so when dell jumps onto ryzen i guess the infant issues are solved now?

    The source link is broken.

As far as affordable pre-built systems go, Dell does really nice work with compartmentalization, cable management, and build quality. Gotta give them credit for the nice case design, too. I don't usually like asymmetrical designs, but I really like this one... except a red LED would be ideal for both branding and aesthetics.

It's all objective but meh, they could do a better job with the case design. I'll be sticking with my Corsair Obsidian 750d Airflow.

I agree. This is actually more attractive than their Alienware brand at half the price, and probably the same motherboard. Precision desktops often bake in most of the Alienware stuff, and vice versa.

Doesn't seem too overpriced compared to a home build at the low end at least. If someone wanted to save the time and have single source support, seems a fine option.

2 DVD drive bays? one slim and one normal? That's going back in time i suppose. I would have prefered a fan controller or anything else that would still keep it budget minded and modern at the same time. Too much to ask from Dell

From the service manual, it's an included slim optical drive and an empty 5.25" bay for whatever you want to put in it. A fan controller is way to enthusiast-fiddly to be default included in a mass market consumer system.

or just take them out all together and drop the height of the case. there is nothing behind it anyway, and a usb portable dvd drive is dirt cheap , heck they can even offer it as a bundle with the system and probably won't increase price. They are just not in tune with current market trends

Someone might like it, I still use an internal BD-RW drive. I dislike using my externals as it's more clutter and mess.
  • DanNeely - Tuesday, May 30, 2017 - link

My desktop's my main system, and even though I don't use it much anymore having the drive internal is just more convenient than having a USB one that's either part of my permanent on desk clutter or that I have to go hunting to figure out where I stashed out of the way every time.

I can understand people who spread large amounts of time across multiple devices wanting an external drive that can be shared instead though. In Dell's case I suspect it comes down to them not thinking a 2nd model that doesn't have drive bays is worth enough to justify the added logistical costs; and that no drive would be a deal breaker for more customers than 2 extra inches.

However, unless they're planning to offer some models with a regular size optical drive (slimline blueray drives still have a decent price premium) or do something else with the space up top (the back panel in the drivebay zone looks suspiciously odd); I'd've probably split the difference and only included the slimline bay and shortened the chassis accordingly.

Dell is also planning on utilizing an exclusive Ryzen 12-core beast in their Alienware Desktops. Obviously, they see the promise in AMD's new lineup.

What 12 core Ryzen does AMD make?
As far as I know Ryzen 7 Maxed-out at 8, while their Threadriper is 16 cores.
  • Luta - Tuesday, May 30, 2017 - link

    Threadripper is 10, 12, 14, and 16 cores.

Kudos to Dell for taking a step forward and putting AMD in a more competitive spot. It's nice to see and not feel like I have to get x chip from x vendor or the world explodes.
