Continuing convergence of services makes a lot possible, and progress in low-level speech recognition is impressive, but real AI and natural language understanding just isn't here yet, no matter how much companies and the press try to hype it. As long as these assistants drop down to "google search mode" as soon as you get outside their simple prerecognized phrases and scripts, I'll stay uninterested. 1980's adventure games for pete's sake were better at handling "unanticipated" input than most of these assistants.
Ya and Google will always be a search provider come ad company. They do not know how to make a useful OS apart from filling it with gimmiks n tracking tools and mislead the technology wavefront. World of technology is better off them. Because they are so greedy.
I wouldn't feel comfortable with a device like this in my home. Alphabet/Google is highly dependent on data mining and generally doing creepy things that make my skin crawl. It's bad enough I have one if their phone OS devices with me when I go places. I feel like I have a pervy, dirty old uncle watching me when that thing is turned on. I can't imagine having MORE of that disgusting shit in more places where I want to just live in peace without being creeped on all of the time.
Personally, I will root and uninstall or remove all Google apps and framework apps. Yes, Google manipulated android and made public a fool. Now having a Google Android phone is like having wormtail as your friend while hiding from Voldemort.

Google should be implementing 1980's adventure games as their new assistant for more accurate results to unanticipated input?peevee - Friday, May 19, 2017 - link

"Later this year, the Assistant on Google Home will gain the ability to send visual responses to your TV via Chromecast."Of course first you have to turn on your TV, your receiver and switch it to the HDMI input with Chromecast in it.
Of course, after first playing with it, nobody will ever bother.
Every company desperately needs a "Steve Jobs" to tear managers who "invent" all the unusable BS new ones - and then fire them on the spot.

"New products like Google Assistant and Google Lens make it clear that Google is no longer a search company; it’s an artificial intelligence company"It is and always has been an ad company. Now using some neural network models (no, "Artificial Intelligence" is a misnomer so far) to sell more ads.
