"Some of Huawei's claims will be difficult to test in a full review, such as the long-term performance metric gathering, purely because of the time required and the need for a baseline on the same device receiving the same application profile trace."
Well, if the review takes 6 months to be finished then maybe you will have the chance to test this. Just sayin'.
How many and which bands does this model support in the international/European version? How are things in the Asian/Chinese model? And what about the usual US mess?
Yet another gigantic phone. Something like this would be okay if it was going to double as a laptop or desktop replacement. With printing capabilities coming along on phones, it's becoming a lot more realistic to do so, but phones need to be portable without weighing down a handbag or requring one of those hip holsters that make you into a fashion laughing stock. Using one as a primary computing device would ideally require a 7 - 10 inch screen and making a phone with a screen larger than 4 inches makes the phone obnoxiously large so the two use cases can't really work together unless the phone can link up wirelessly with a larger screen. If you're going to have to own a bigger screen anyway, you may as well just go buy a laptop and enjoy a smaller handset. Basically Huawei made yet another utterly pointless, totally useless phone.
Presumably it will have a smaller sibling, a P10 or whatever. This is about capitalising on Samsung's woes.
Interestingly the BBC reported that Apple and Google can't keep with demand for their larger models. Who's buying them when they're priced so ridiculously?
Since you're so smart, why not apply for a job at one of those companies and tell them what they should be making? It really sounds that you'd do a better job. And while you're at it, provide Samsung and Apple with consultation services and urge them to discontinue all their phablet lines.
Sheesh such demands. I already work for a major telecommunications company. Isn't that good enough for you or are you one of those people that just can't ever be satisfied? :P
Really though, I didn't make any claims about my intellectual capacity in my post and my desire for a phone is very clearly a matter of personal taste. If you don't have the same preferences, you're welcome to have your own opinion, but being insulting about things isn't a good way to express your objections. Come on Moe! You can be better than that!
Yup, I most certainly can, but why bother when there's always someone who goes out of their way to take everything someone else does and thinks personally, Moe? :D
I was thinking the same thing. My LG G3 phone is >1080P, and its several years old. For VR, shouldn't it be a min. of 1080P per eye? I don't have any experience with VR headsets so dunno.
A 5.5" phone is about the biggest you'd want for current VR headsets. Any bigger and you end up with a heavy display with low resolution. Dpi is what's important for VR, not just resolution, because VR headsets can only use a small portion of a phone's entire display area. A small high-dpi screen would be the best for VR but it wouldn't be good for actual phone use.
TLDR; just get a dedicated HMD for VR instead of trying to use a phone.
After the Mi Mix every phone seems underwhelming at the moment.
The specs arent' that enticing either. I mean, 5.9" of full HD? What gives...
And finally, why would someone promote the color gamut of their phone based off N(ever) T(he) S(ame) C(olor)? And that at an event hosted in the heart of Europe.
Mi Max user here, this phone is awesome because it finally lets me use a phone as a pocket computer. The Mi Mix would be amazing because it has the same screen size in a much smaller body. Can't wait...
Does this support encryption? I walked in to a Best buy checking out some phones to replace my ZTE AXON 7(which is the best device out there, but doesn't support encryption) and was shocked to see that the Honor 8 does not display encryption settings under Settings-->privacy and security option. It is shocking that many manufacturers are ignoring this. I would appreciate if anyone can share if they have any Huawei phone that exposes the "Encryption" setting. This is a deal breaker to many as it means you can't use your phone for work, as many tech savvy corps require that your phone supports encryption, a boot pass, and another pass code post boot.
