You're welcome. All I know from that is its just tougher metal, a thing Samsung tried to do when they user Magnesium Alloy as a "replacement" for 7000 series aluminum.
I would seriously suggest anyone to stay away from Sony Xperia line of smartphone, unless you wish for lack of update, or problem like sleep of death, etc.....
Yep. Sad T-Mobile Z3 owner here. Sony has zero regard for the US market so official updates are pretty much out of the question for carrier-locked phones.
Not only that, my digitizer failed after 1.5 years and Sony has backed off their waterproof advertising because so many customers have phones with water damage, especially people who don't use a magnetic charging dock because the USB flaps fail easily after persistent use. Granted, my USB flaps are in great shape because I use a dock but that didn't save my digitizer in any case.
I will miss the terrific battery life on the Z3 but I'll never get a Sony again.
Apparently the X Compact isn't water-resistant at all. Very disappointing. And disappointing to see the processor / gpu get downgraded relative to the XZ. Though it's not clear to me how the Snapdragon 650 compares against a Snapdragon 810, and it does have more RAM.
I've been really happy with my Z3 Compact. I hope Sony makes a better Xperia Compact next year or however long it takes for me to need to upgrade. Two of my favorite features are the magnetic charging dock and the water resistance, though, which this lacks completely.
Z3 compact was mostly great but crippled by the 12gb internal storage which for a high end phone was pathetic and very quickly filled up.
The Z5 with the snapdragon 810 was crippled by that chip which was a massive power hog. It overheats in big phones so putting it in a compact one would mean it was pretty useless.
The 650 in the XZ is actually a pretty good chip, a nice balance of performance and battery life, gpu is a bit slower but then this has a pretty low res screen. I am actually like the chip. Lack of waterproofing makes me sad however.
Haven't had a problem with storage in my Z3. Don't even have an SD card in it. I use Dropbox for automatic photo backup and Google Play Music for streaming with some local caching. Biggest space hog on my phone is actually the Kindle app.
Glad to hear that the 650 chip is decent. I had heard about the Z5 Compacts overheating.
Now if only I can get over the lack of waterproofing and the magnetic charging dock.
I've a Z3 Compact currently, and I agree it was a great little phone. Good size, good spec, waterproof, magnetic dock. I have managed to get through a few rear screens recently though. Never understood why phones would have more glass than absolutely necessary. At 2 years old I'm looking to upgrade with my next contract and was anticipating the newest Sony Compact to be the logical choice. Looking at this, however, it seems that anticipation was misplaced. I'm presuming it won't be priced as a budget device.
I know it's subjective but I personally think all the X range of Sony devices look a bit cheap, particularly the Compact. Definitely not a good looking phone, although some sites seem to be saying the opposite.
Hopefully the little Nexus will be good this year.
They ruined the power of the Compact by adding a *Snapdragon 650*... Why Sony? Why not 820? That shit is on 28nm gahdammit! And speaking of which no waterproofing in the same form as last yearr...im ok with the XZ, but prices are gonna let consumers go elsewhere...
A 28nm chip this far into this year is a deal breaker. Those big bezels don't help either, especially that useless bottom one... That said, at least they're still making a <5" screen phone. Please start paying attention to feedback/criticism Sony!
I see they are seeming using the same camera sensor (or a very similar one) that they have used since at least the Z1 (or maybe even the Z). I've heard it's the software that's the problem. Apprently there are still issues on the cameras in these.
My Z1 completely failed due to water damage, even though I was very careful, so I'm still rather cautious of Sony phones. I also haven't gotten over the terrible viewing angles of the Z1.
Not happy with Xperia X Compact. The compact series was supposed to carry flagship specs in small form factor. Sadly Sony seems to have digressed from the compact philosophy. Totally disappointed!!

I had water damage where my flaps looked fine, but I sent it in for repair anyways and it was covered as defective flaps.wffurr - Thursday, September 1, 2016 - link

No NFC for the Compact? So much for a modern high-priced phone.MattMe - Thursday, September 1, 2016 - link
I wasn't aware of that! That's a decision-maker right there. Definitely going elsewhere this year at renewal time.Ryan Smith - Thursday, September 1, 2016 - link
Sorry, my bad on that one! There is NFC on the Compact. I was finishing the spec table this morning and missed that.

Why is the finger print sensor disabled on all Sony phones in North America? That's kind of a big deal for me now that I'm used to using one.
