Cortana was a really good move on Microsoft's part. Yes, it copies Siri and whatever Google is doing, but by widely distributing it in places where Alphabet and Apple don't have devices, Microsoft is getting access to voice data for data collection that its nearest competitors aren't able to gather. Plus, while people are getting really uncomfortable speaking openly around their phones or computers, they're not quite as guarded when they're in their living rooms. Microsoft is smart as they've got their open mic collection software branded after something that would appeal to the 30-somethings who fell in love with the name thanks to playing the original Halo.
Is it always on? Or does the user have the option to enable always on? They integrate it with music and allow for hifi streaming [ unlike Amazon ] and I'd be sold.
Really a great bookend to them giving up on Kinect in the new model... They should at least throw a $2 microphone on the new console to retain this functionality.
