The Xperia X performance is exactly the kind of phone I want now that my One m7's battery is dying ever faster. But I'll wait until I see what Motorola's X Pure is for this year. I also kind of want to wait to see what this supposed Google "Pixel Phone" is, and what features Google has in store that it needs so much control over it for.
I guess too much choice is kind of a curse after all, well at least it's a better curse than "close to no choice at all" if I were going for iOS.
Good to know I am not the only One M7 holdout! Mine is also starting to die, with the indicator LED and the boomsound speakers going in addition to the aged battery. Honestly though, if I can swap out the battery right now, I actually can tolerate continuing to use the M7.
It doesn't look like the X performance will be coming to the US though. Bummer
Just replaced my wife's M7. Top 1/4 of screen was no longer working and the purple camera issue. Got her a Nexus 6P. That thing is so fluid. Google Fi to top it off. Buh-bye contracts. It's one bad ass phone.
I successfully replaced my M7 battery, Camera (no purple any more) , Display & new Body = with total cost 80$, and I feel no need for upgrade. I got those parts from aliexpress
Same here. My battery is still fine but purple camera a bugger. Loose usb is the next peeve. No B4 but that's not the phone's fault. It's held up pretty well. Too bad htc decided not to make phones like this anymore.
M7 holdout here too. Purple camera sucks but battery is still good. I'll wait to see what the M10 offers but will probably buy a used M8 or M9 on Swappa.
Blimey, does the M7 have planned obselensence or something? The battery in mine is dying by the day too!
However, surveying the market, I've decided to simply go with an M8. The M9 was terrible but while the M8 will definitely be lacking in performance compared to the latest and greatest, I was quite happy with the M7 and the 8 has the screen, speakers, battery and software I want.
I am still happily chugging along with my Lumia 920 that is going on 4 years old and is probably going to get another update to Windows Phone 10. :P Still quick and responsive too.
But battery's don't last forever, they have a finite amount of cycles and after all these years it's time for me to upgrade. Unfortunately for Sony I constantly find that they have a terrible update history, I was spoiled with my Lumia in regards to updates, HTC are a little better than Sony though.
Would like the best possible camera I can get, which leans me towards Sony. Would also like a 6" screen. GAH. Decisions.
I had iPhone 3Gs for 4 years and moved to Lumia 920 which I still use, 3 years later. My one is still holding on battery reasonably well - I never had problem going through a day, and with some care (as in, not playing any games) it can go through 2 days with some juice to spare. I'm on a light side of phone use, though... I'll always use tablet/laptop/desktop instead, if I can.
I have a "problem" with Android. I don't hate it or anything... but it feels somehow uncomfortable, much as I played with a few Samsungs in our office. Really cannot explain. I can find my way with it with no problem, but I don't... feel... at home with it. iPhone was great back in 2009 when I got it, and Windows Phone 8 kind of clicked with me immediately... to a degree that I was fine with tiles on desktop Win 8. Android just failed to create that feel of comfort.
I wish Sony makes Win phones, too. Shouldn't be hard to bring Windows on these Xpertias.
Yep, me too. And my wife, who has the purple camera issue. I keep wanting Sony's phones, and they keep not offering to sell one to me. (I'm on Verizon, and the Z3v was old by the time they offered it) HTC had it made after the M7. Just follow Samsung's and Apple's lead, changing very little and making incremental improvements every year. It should have been easy. Here's hoping they get back on track and offer me something I want to buy next month.
I swapped from my M7 to a 6S plus recently. The hardware is much nicer and that's really saying something. Having to use a physical pushbutton for switching apps makes me cringe, text selection sucks, and the menu system is garbage but outside of that it's nice.
Funny how the low end xa model is 4mm narrower than the "high end" performance model, the xa actually seems to be the narrowest 5" phone to date, almost no bezels. Why didn't sony continue this to the performance model?
IMO, the only things missing for me would be an extra gb of ram and a bump up to 3000mah, but i doubt the phone even needs it with a 5inch 1080p screen.
The SD650 looks like an interesting chip. I've seen it reported that the 650 is faster than the 808, which was surprising since those two chips are so similar. Hopefully you guys will get a device with the 650 in for review.
God knows what they were smoking when they came up with this product line-up. There's just no continuity, whatsoever. Although the Xperia XP looks really interesting (the huge bezels aside).
Every Sony phone since the Xperia Z seems to look very much the same. Sony seems to be using one design for all its phone and have been doing this for like 6 generations of their Xperia Z phones now. Not sure if they even have a
It's such a shame Sony doesn't do better in North America because they make great phones. They focus on battery life and camera quality (though their software could use some work in the camera department) which is exactly what I want in a phone.
I've been really impressed with my Z3. I've had it for ~1.5 years and I still get two days of battery life out of it (admittedly with light usage). At the same point in my Galaxy S3's life it was doing well to last eight hours. The X performance fixes the one problem I have with the Z3, which is the glass back. I have to keep a case on the Z3 or it will slip off even mildly sloped surfaces.
Previously I owned a Z3 Compact, and I agree that I was sold for the the great battery life, camera and the water proofing. Of course, you still get a SD card slot which is great too. Having said that, I feel that their aggressive push to release a marginally improved phone every 6 months of so is quite silly and I don't think it did a lot for them in term of generating more profit.
The X Performance looks like a terrific phone but it's Sony, so it will be priced at 1.5x what it should be. I'd love to replace my beat up N5, and this would be a great replacement phone, but I am way past paying $600 USD for a phone.
The article states that the XP, as of now, is not positioned to be Sony's flagship. Hopefully this is true. I remember their being numerous rumors that Sony would begin to pull out of the mobile device theatre.
I'm most looking forward to see what flagship Sony eventually comes out with and what the new Zen looks like.
I haven't been following Android as closely as I have. But what is the consensus on the 820. Do I have to avoid every phone that has it like the 810?

Because performance and the battery required to power it requires space? This is why we have shit battery life, people caring about a few mm of thickness.
