We select vendors to appear in our Price Guides based on two requirements: solid consumer feedback and having the lowest possible pricing. You'll notice that these vendors aren't paying us to be listed here; we do not accept requests to be listed here. We have tried to eliminate vendors with low feedback rating, but we do encourage you to do your own research before purchasing from any of these vendors.

With the new and improved Price Guides we have not only increased our standards when evaluating online vendors, but we have also partnered up with our friends at CNet to offer yet another service to you all. Using CNet's Shopper.com search engine we can provide you with an additional pool of vendors to search from that are checked up on by CNet. You can wade through those results by clicking on the CNet Pricing link in the second to last column on the right.

If there are any problems with the guide or a vendor's pricing changes dramatically then be sure to email the author listed at the top of the page and we'll take appropriate action. Remember that although some vendors may be cheaper, we only list those with generally positive feedback from a decent number of consumers. This Week
As usual, if you have any reports of incorrect prices please feel free to email us with the name of the vendor and the product/price that appears incorrectly on their website. This will help us produce a more useful guide in the future.

Prices have not been moving too much from the last guide. Most models of motherboards have not changed and the ones that have have done so in very small amounts.

Memory prices are also taking after motherboard prices, keeping their tags from the last guide.

Go ahead and take a look at this week's changes in prices for the most popular boards along with the top brands in desktop memory...

VIA Chipset

This week, prices on almost all of the VIA chipset motherboards remain unchanged. The only few exceptions are the boards from Shuttle, the AK35GT2 carrying the KT333 chipset at an $8 cut and the AV41 carrying the P4X266 chipset which has dropped $5 since the last guide. The Aopen AK77-333 and the ECS P4VMM2 have both risen in price $3 and $1 respectively.

Intel Chipset Motherboards

Most prices on the boards carrying Intel's 850 series chipset haven't budged a bit. The AsusTek P4T533-C is the only board with a cut of $3. For the boards with Intel's 845 series chipset there are a few more products which have changed. They may not have decreased in price, but the increase is substantial.

NVidia nForce Chipset Motherboards

It seems to be a pattern, many, if not all, of the boards on the charts this week have changed zero amount from the last motherboard guide. There have been a few drops and some increases in the prices of some of the boards but mainly the change remains at $0. The two boards that have changed in price on the NVidia chart are the A7N266-VM at +$2 and the K7N420 Pro at +$3.

SiS Chipset

AsusTek's P4S333-VM has dropped in price about $2 from its last price of $82 while Biostar's M7SXG has cut $1 of its tag. For the 7 series chipsets, AsusTek's A7S333 with the 745 chipset has put on $11 to its wieght.

DDR Memory

The chips with the greatest cut in price are the 512MB of PC2100 from Mushkin and Micron's 256MB of PC2100 at -$6.

RDRAM

RDRAM prices haven't changed much from the last guide. The greatest cut is on Samsung's 256MB of PC1066 at -$3.
