Introduction
It's time once again for AnandTech's Memory and Motherboard price guide.
The basic goal is to provide you with the best deals, and follow price trends
of the listed products. We have selected a leading team of on-line vendors,
and will be tracking their progress on weekly basis. Please note that all vendors
were selected according to their best price offered. Some vendors may ask that
you place a phone-order to make sure that you receive our listed price; others
simply ask that you mention where you found the price (in this case AnandTech).
We have tried to eliminate vendors with low feedback rating, but we do encourage
you to do some research before purchasing any product from this list.
If you encounter any problems with a vendor on our list, please email us, and we will take appropriate action. Remember that we will only list vendors with positive customer feedback. If you have any suggestions, don't hesitate to let us know.
Also be sure to check out AnandTech's Hot Deals Forum for even more great memory, motherboard, CPU, video card and other technology buys.

This Week
Welcome to the First Edition of AnandTech's Memory and Motherboard Price Guide for the June.
For the past several weeks memory prices have been dropping steadily and this week is no different as quite a few modules have hit record lows. DDR SDRAM prices continue to fall with 256MB of Crucial PC2100 and PC1600 DDR SDRAM costing $60. That price is huge decline from what it was months earlier and such low prices will only make upgrading to a DDR platform more affordable.
DDR SDRAM isn't alone in price drops as PC133 and PC100 modules take a price hit bringing 256MB of PC133 CAS2 SDRAM to $49 which is cheaper than the CAS3 module which runs for $53. For the first time in a while RDRAM is actually stable in price.
Slot-1/Socket-370/Socket-432 motherboards aren't doing too much this week mirroring last week's trends as prices for these motherboards has been stable for some time with the exception to some scattered price drops. New to the i850 list is the ABIT TH7-RAID bringing our Pentium 4 board count to six.
On the other hand, Socket-A motherboards are still falling in price, though not as many as reported in our last guide. This week, more DDR motherboards are on the fall along with some KT133A boards. In addition, we've added two KT133E motherboards to the KT133 mobo list, the ABIT KT7E and the EPoX 8KTA2L, as well as the Gigabyte GA-7ZXR 2.2 KT133A board.
In addition, the AMD 760MP-based Tyan Thunder K7 motherboard joins our list
of Socket-A motherboards which is based on the recently released AMD 760MP dual
Athlon chipset. The Thunder K7 will most likely be the only 760MP-based board
as motherboard manufacturers are scheduled to produce motherboards based on
the 760MPX mass production version of the 760MP. The 760MPX differs from the
760MP in that it features a 66MHz 64-bit PCI bus with support for up to two
devices off of the North Bridge, and a new South Bridge with support for a legacy
32-bit 33MHz PCI bus. More on the AMD 760MP and the accompanying Athlon MP Server
Processor can be found here.

Just a glance at this week's memory prices and you know that memory right now is cheap. So cheap that you can get PC1600 or PC2100 DDR SDRAM for about the same price as CAS2 PC133 SDRAM. This is a real kicker for anyone who is in the market for a DDR solution since DDR previously was quite expensive but lucky for the consumer those days are gone for now. Not only has PC1600/2100 DDR memory fallen in price but so has the recently released PC2400 modules with 256MB running for $91 and 128MB for $52. RDRAM has actually stabilized a bit in price since over the past weeks the price drops have gradually been declining.
"PC150," PC133, and PC100 modules are all on the fall with price drops ranging anywhere from $1 to $21. If you're looking to upgrade now might be the time to consider doing so as SDRAM is running cheaper than usual.

Not much has changed this week with Slot-1/Socket-370/Socket-423 motherboards since most have gone unchanged in price. However there are some price drops to note with several i815EP boards, a few i850 boards, as well as a few VIA Pro266 boards. The biggest price drop goes to the VIA Pro266-based ASUS CUV266 motherboard which has fallen a whopping $44 in price down to $185 making this Socket-370 DDR board much more affordable. It still outweighs it's DDR competitors by $70 on average which is still expensive taking into account the price of PC2100 DDR memory which is very low. Though it is still expensive, the CUV266 is our recommendation if you're looking for a Pro266-based board.

This week Socket-A price drops are fewer with the most price drops going to KT133A and our DDR list of motherboards. KT133 boards have stabilized in price and some have even taken a slight price hike. Note that we've added two more KT133E motherboards to the list, the ABIT KT7E and the EPoX 8KTA2L, which offer support for the higher-MHz Athlon and Durons and actually run cheaper than their KT133 predecessors.
KT133A boards on the other hand continue their fall in price making these boards even more affordable if you're looking for some bang for your buck when it comes to computing power.
Unlike weeks past, Socket-A DDR boards have fallen much more this week with price drops in the range of $2 to $16. We've also added the Tyan Thunder K7 DDR 760MP motherboard to the list which is a hands down awesome server motherboard. Though it runs for very high price, we applaud it's performance, stability, and overall quality thus it earns our recommendation.
