Introduction
It's time once again for AnandTech's Memory and Motherboard price guide.
The basic goal is to provide you with the best deals, and follow price trends
of the listed products. We have selected a leading team of on-line vendors,
and will be tracking their progress on weekly basis. Please note that all vendors
were selected according to their best price offered. Some vendors may ask that
you place a phone-order to make sure that you receive our listed price; others
simply ask that you mention where you found the price (in this case AnandTech).
We have tried to eliminate vendors with low feedback rating, but we do encourage
you to do some research before purchasing any product from this list.
If you encounter any problems with a vendor on our list, please email us, and we will take appropriate action. Remember that we will only list vendors with positive customer feedback. If you have any suggestions, don't hesitate to let us know.
Also be sure to check out AnandTech's Hot Deals Forum for even more great memory, motherboard, CPU, video card and other technology buys.

This Week
Welcome to the Second Edition of AnandTech's Memory and Motherboard Price Guide for the month of May.
We are happy to say that memory prices for this week are smokin' hot! Almost every single module we list has come down in price and making things sweeter is Crucial's recent announcement that DDR SDRAM modules run for the same as PC133 CAS 2 SDRAM modules. At one time many months back buying DDR might put quite a dent in your checkbook but those days are long gone and hopefully this trend of lowering prices will hang around for some time longer. Not only have DDR modules dropped but also RDRAM which comes as no surprise as well PC133 and PC100 SDRAM modules. In addition, a big thanks to the readers for letting us know that Corsair PC2400 DDR modules are now available which are listed in the guide.
Motherboards on the other hand haven't made much noise in terms of prices with most remaining the same with a few fluctuations here and there. We've added several new motherboards to the list which including a new KT133 and KT133A motherboard as well as the Shuttle AK31 KT266 and EPoX EP-8K7A DDR boards.

Memory prices have fallen once again this week with almost all of the modules we list falling a good bit. DDR SDRAM is making the biggest buzz in terms of pricing since Crucial has slashed its price to match the price of their PC133 CAS2 modules making the move to DDR more affordable. As you can see, 256MB of PC2100 memory has fallen $24 and the 128MB stick has taken a $17 drop. PC1600 has fallen in much the same manner bringing its price to levels near that of PC2100 memory. We've also added Corsair PC2400 memory, running at 150MHz, that vendors have recently begun to sell. It runs approximately 70% more expensive than PC2100/PC1600 DDR modules but will most likely fall in the coming months. RDRAM has also dropped in price; no surprise there.
PC133 and PC100 modules like their DDR cousins have also taken a hit in pricing with CAS2 and CAS3 modules dropping sharply in price. We said this last week and several months ago and we'll say it again. Prices are great right now and hopefully will last throughout the next few months of the summer so if you're debating whether or not to upgrade now may be the best time because as we've seen in the past memory prices can spontaneously take a price hike.

Like our last Price Guide, Slot-1/Socket-370/Socket-423 prices have remained much the same with a few fluctuations here and there. i815E boards have not changed much with the exception of the ASUS CUSL2 and AOpen AX3S Pro falling in price and the story is much the same with i815EP and VIA Apollo Pro 133A-based boards.
Pentium 4 boards are actually somewhat quiet this week with a few slight drops and a price hike with our recommended board, the ASUS P4T. In the other high-end category, a few VIA Pro266 boards have taken some nice price drops with the Shuttle AV32 dropping $18 and the EPoX EP-3VHA dropping $10.

A good amount of Socket-A motherboards have fallen in price since our last guide. We've added the ASUS A7V-E motherboard to the list replacing the ASUS A7V which we were not able to locate through any vendors. The A7V-E is based on the VIA KT133E or KT133 "Enhanced" chipset which supports AMD CPUs above 1.2GHz but officially does not have support for a 133MHz DDR FSB although some say it works fine at that level. Additionally it runs a great price of $87 and sports all of ASUS's signature features and quality.
Most KT133A-based boards are on the fall including our recommended Iwill KK266 and the ABIT KT7A which we have added to our recommended list of Socket-A boards as it received a good review. Both boards also come in RAID flavors if you're in the need of setting up an array of hard drives. We've also added the FIC AZ11EA motherboard to our list of KT133A boards.
VIA KM133-based boards are also on the fall including the ASUS A7VI-VM which is still very expensive considering the KM133 platform is intended as a budget solution and alternative to more expensive systems though it turns out the more expensive systems (i.e. KT133) run cheaper. On the other hand, the other three KM133-based boards are better priced though if you're considering this platform, we'd go with the A7VI-VM.
A few of the DDR Socket-A gang of boards have fallen in price with the exception of the MSI K7 Master and ASUS A7A266 which have jumped a bit in price. We've added the Shuttle AK31 VIA KT266 motherboard to the list and so far the VIA KT266-based boards are competitively priced compared to the other DDR solutions available.
