HP Announces ProBook x360 440 G1 Notebook: Slim and Secure Convertible
by Joe Shields on June 6, 2018 2:00 AM ESTHP introduced the new HP ProBook x360 400 G1 they say is designed to adapt to the way growing business and on-the-go professionals work both inside and outside of the office. The 14-inch convertible is powered by Intel 8th Gen Core processors and up to a NVIDIA GeForce MX130 discrete GPU, along with “built for business” features.
The exterior styling is very ‘business-like’ with a grey/silver chassis with the HP symbol stamped prominently on the back of the display panel. Being a convertible, the device has the ability to work as a standard laptop, tablet, tent mode, and presentation modes which are key for flexibility in a business environment.
The full-size premium HP keyboard with chiclet-style keys is backlit with the keyboard deck finished in matte black. HP says it is a thin chassis and measuring in at 12.99” x 9.13” x 0.78”, less than an inch on the z-axis, we can agree. The sides of the device hold all the connectivity as well as a cooling vent. Overall, nothing sticks out on the styling front – nobody will accuse a user of this being a ‘gaming’ laptop.
Hardware wise, The ProBook x360 440 G1 has multiple CPU options from a Celeron or Pentium Gold, 7th Gen Core i5, up to 8th Gen Core i7 quad-core processors will power the convertible. Ram capacity is up to 16GB of dual-channel DDR4-2133 which sits in two SODIMM slots. Internally the ProBook x360 440 G1 is able to house two storage drives - up to a 512GB PCIe NVMe M.2 SSD and up to a 256GB M.2 SATA SSD.
There are two display options, both 14-inch 1920x1080(FHD) IPS panels. The first is an eDP + PSR LED-backlit touchscreen supporting 100% sRGB color gamut with 400 cd/m² brightness. The second option is an eDP LED-backlit touchscreen and covering a lower 67% sRGB color gamut with 220 cd/m² brightness. Driving the display will be the internal GPUs from the processors (HD 610 or UHD 620) or there is a discrete option with the NVIDIA GeForce MX130 with 2 GB DDR5 dedicated.
Communications are handled through a combination of wired Ethernet via a Realtek Gigabit port, or Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 8265 802.11ac Wi-Fi with Bluetooth 4.2 support. There are other options available for mobile broadband as well. As far as ports and connectors go, the ProBook x360 440 G1 has two USB 3.0 ports (1 charging) one USB 3.1 Type-C (power and DisplayPort), one headphone/microphone combo port, and an HDMI (1.4b) port. Additionally, there is a single SD port supporting SD/SDHC/SDXC modules.
Being a business based laptop, security is always a concern. With this HP includes several features including GP Client Security Manager Gen4 that uses multi-factor authentication, HP Device Access Manager, HP Spare Key, and HP Password Manager. The convertible also has an optional fingerprint reader and IR facial recognition camera.
The HP ProBook x360 440 G1 is priced starting at $599 and will available later in June.
