The Carrizo model should be able to use Hybrid Crossfire between the APU and the discrete GPU, which maybe very interesting. Even more with DX12 explicit multiadapter on the road.
The only concern I have is the TDP that manufacturers are locking the FX-8800P to; we're seeing 12-15W for both it and the A10-8700P which is nowhere near their peak levels, and consequently all we're seeing is gimped performance which unfortunately shows up on PassMark.
If they can offer a higher TDP than 15W, then job well done. Coupled with a 1080p panel and an SSD, this could be the best route into Carrizo.
You're wrong. Carrizo is designed to be most efficient at 15W and a TDP of 35W (175% increase) only improves the performance with 30% (AMD's numbers). It's simply not worth it.
I would take anytime a slim 18mm laptop with 30% less compute power than a fat, heavy 30-35mm low battery laptop.
That "up to 256GB SSD" seems way too limiting in 2015. Perhaps the smart idea is to get the lowest storage option and replace the SSD with something more suitable yourself (if it's not soldered in place).
Back in March Anand described the Radeon R5 M330 as a Oland rebadge, yet now I am hearing it described as a PCIe 8x specific laptop part (fits nicely with Carrizo), GCN 2.0 Tonga derivative.
As an aside to the above; I am liking the look of the Ideapad 500 (14"), as with Carrizo, an SSD and a 1080p screen this could be a cheap way to get some mobile gaming fun.
I would prefer it didn't have such a dated (Oland) co-GPU however...
I had a Thinkpad Twist which got less than half the battery life it was advertised on a good day, and a Yoga Tablet 2 (10in Windows) that did about the same. I see Lenovo is rating these new laptops at 4-5 hours, does that mean they're finally giving realistic estimates or are these going to be shutting off after 2 hours?
There are two errors in the AIO table for the AIO 700 27" 's display: 1) it looks like you copied and pasted the wrong information and 2) also forgot to include an edit button for comments.
The Lenovo ideapad 500 and Lenovo MIIX 700 Tablet are the most interesting products here.
The tablet because it's the 1st proper Surface Pro competitor and the Ideapad laptop because Carrizo's CPU performance should be equal to Skylake-U, if slighty slower (irelevant) and AMD's iGPU should be dramatically faster than Skylake-U's iGPU.
I agree. They really should make some of their laptops like the MIIX 700. Thin, light, and good specs, but with a proper keyboard. Even if they put the electronics in the base. The others are over weight for what they are.
It's not quite a direct competitor to the SP3. It's core "m" not "i" (the chart is correct but the article text isn't as of this post). You are still talking about a 4.5W part vs a 15W part. Aiming between the Surface and Surface Pro is probably a smart move though. The Surface seems pricey for something with Atom internals once you add the keyboard. The Surface Pro similarly feels a little pricey to me for an 8GB/256GB config and a keyboard compared to something like the Spectre x360. Apples to quite different apples I know. The pricing on the MIIX will be key. "Starting at" $699 and "Up to" 8GB/256GB still leaves a lot of room for things to go wrong.
What's with the shitty/terrible battery life on those laptops? No excuse if you're using Skylake. Budget or no budget, should at least be 8-9 hours and even higher for the higher range models.
That's what struck me about all of the specs as well. That's just embarrassing in 2015 for ULV (or lower) parts. I'm hoping "up to 4 hours" for a 14" Braswell design is some kind of mistake. Otherwise I just hear Nelson saying "Ha Ha!" while pointing at this entire range.
Exactly my thoughts! "Up to 4 hours" battery life is so 2010! My current Asus UX303LA with i5-5200U lasts around 10 hours, I would expect no less than than from a newer more efficient platform. All specs looke nice, but battery life is pathetic. Hopefully is just a gneralization of the lower end model.

FX 8800P at 15W is still 45% faster CPU-wise than AMD's previous 15W top APU, the FX 7500, so it's still a dramatic improvement.nathanddrews - Wednesday, September 2, 2015 - link
... But you're still paying full price for a crippled APU.T1beriu - Wednesday, September 2, 2015 - link

Yes, if you're only doing a CPU task it is much less pref/watt at 35W.What if you're using the CPU and GPU now?
Cryio - Wednesday, September 2, 2015 - link
Well of course it will and it can.bug77 - Wednesday, September 2, 2015 - link

Nah, 256 is more than enough for most users. Plenty of folks use online storage as well.R3MF - Wednesday, September 2, 2015 - link

If it's based on GCN 1.2, it's as modern as it gets.In fact, *it is* GCN 1.2 for sure because it has FreeSync capabilities, which makes it at least a GPU based on GCN 1.1.
Cryio - Wednesday, September 2, 2015 - link
Everything I read about it seem to make it a GCN 1.2 based GPU. Tonga is GCN 1.2, there is no GCN 2.0.ET - Wednesday, September 2, 2015 - link
Nice to see a Carrizo laptop. Would be even nicer to see a Carrizo review.(And frankly what I want is a 11.6" Carrizo laptop.)

Wow! Carrizo 14/15" with 1080p!!Oh wait... mediocre dGPU. Might be better without that dGPU

The IdeaPad 500 14 inch looks like a very good model at $400 with Full HD screen, 2 Kg weight and AMD Carrizo.BMNify - Wednesday, September 2, 2015 - link
Also Lenovo Miix 700 is also interesting as it will be available around the World unlike Surface which is limited to handful of countries.Mondozai - Wednesday, September 2, 2015 - link
