I don't get why people kept complaining about the driver update cycle. Unless of course there is an obvious problem with the current driver like witcher 3, others are just comparing with nvidia, but for what purpose? You think fiddling with drivers are something meant to be done for fun? You update your bios that often? Nvidia updates so often because they have to. Go to their forum. Delve into their problems. I have an nvidia build too. Amd drivers fixes stuff. Once it is fixed, why fiddle with it? Just fot u to feel good "i have a driver update so my system will be better". Pc arent like that.
Improve things? Then tell me why a 960 is only 5 FPS (12 %) below a 780? If Nvidia cares so much about better driver updates, they should also care about their previous customers that are only one generation behind. Why is it that Kepler was being ignored? and NOW finally Kepler is getting an update. It is clear that Nvidia are into some shady business practices as they don't give a crap about their consumers. GameWorks was specifically created to target Radeon users. Nvidia will go so far that they will even cripple their own cards (Kepler) to prove that their cards are superior to AMDs. Plus the whole 970 scandal, also proves that Nvidia doesn't care about their customers. If AMD dies, and Nvidia becomes a monopoly, expect this type of crap to be a daily occurrence.
You nailed it, Kepler and Maxwell are too reliant on driver optimizations to perform as they need a compiler that runs on the host CPU to feed the cores (static scheduling). AMD's hardware dynamic scheduler is far less reliant on drivers to perform (Just like nVidia Fermi), that is why they aged so well, is sad how the GTX 780 had tanked to the point that even an R9 280X is giving it a run for its money, either AMD cards ages better or nVidia cards ages badly.
Looks like these drivers don't fix all of the Witcher 3 Crossfire issues:
"Know Issues: <the "known" typo looks professional, along with the Catalyst 15.4 title on the Catalyst 15.5 page *The Witcher 3 - Wild Hunt : To enable the best performance and experience in Crossfire, users must disable Anti-Aliasing from the games video-post processing options. Some random flickering may occur when using Crossfire. If the issue is affecting the game experience, as a work around we suggest disabling Crossfire while we continue to work with CD Projekt Red to resolve this issue"
Hmmm, humming along nicely on SLI since the day Witcher 3 came out. AMD should complain more so maybe someone else will eventually fix their problems. Oh wait, they have been sabotaged by bad Nvidia! How awful!
I heard it runs great on Kepler. *rolleyes* I'll take the sub 1% of market with multi-GPU having issues instead of every single person with a Kepler card having way lower performance than they should.
nVidia released a driver specifically optimized for Witcher 3 as well. Granted, they did so a day before launch, but that's probably an expected perk of "assisting" a developer in optimizing their game exclusively for your platform.
Here's hoping that DX 12 makes both game-specific driver updates and games optimized for one competitor's platform (sometimes at the expense of the other) a historical relic that we shake our head at like leaded gasoline.
The majority of crashes are due to Kepler... like Gamework is really good for everyone.
For single card at 4k, a 290x or a 980GTX are doing the same thing, however what is interesting is CF push the game to around 50FPS average without that stupid Hair Scam which look worst than the original. animation.
Hey now, the performance penalty aside, the implementation of hairworks in Witcher 3 does look awesome, at least for the creatures.
Maybe it appears unrealistic to you because it kills the fps, slowing everything down. At 60 fps locked it looks better than anything ever done before. New graphic features* always come with a framerate cost. Remember the first Crysis?
*Hairworks has been around for a while, I saw it used first in CoD: Ghosts, but the scale of it in TW3 is unprecedented.

But, hey. Only needing to produce what, 3 drivers in almost half a year and stay competitive with cards that are getting drivers much more often?Obviously a huge problem.

They are working on a HUGE update for Fiji, which will also bring improvements for other cards.vainfyqri - Friday, May 29, 2015 - link

That's my point .__.xthetenth - Friday, May 29, 2015 - link
It's a lot harder to compare performance between cards when your web browser keeps crashing your shiny new drivers.III-V - Friday, May 29, 2015 - link
>Once it is fixed, why fiddle with it?Because you can improve things. And you have to, because you have competition that does.

There have been at least six as far as I can see:14.12 (Omega)
15.1 Beta
15.2 Beta
15.4 Beta
15.4.1 Beta
15.5 Beta
14.12 was the latest stable build.

No mention of a Crossfire FreeSync fix either.

Hey now, Kepler multi-GPU is faster than GCN multi-GPU right now. A bit. Please don't ask about single GPU.D. Lister - Saturday, May 30, 2015 - link
It actually does run great on my 780Ti... albeit without Hairworks :p. I'm about 15 hrs into the game and it crashed twice, annoying but manageable.Black Obsidian - Friday, May 29, 2015 - link
