Hard drive based and rugged seems like an oxymoron in this day and age... Specially for a hobbyist or pro without a crew that's just gonna be offloading photos during downtime... You don't need 1TB day to day and a flash drive or SSD will be far more rugged if it's traveling all the time.
G-Technology does offer the G-DRIVE ev SSD edition.
The problem with a flash drive or SSD is that it probably can't survive getting drenched in water. That is why these rugged water-resistant solutions are popular amongst photographers shooting in remote locations.
