Switch means they are doing something other than the bait, yet the bait here clearly shows the customer limit. They did as they baited, they didn't switch. The original sale just wasn't good.

Why does HTC do this? It annoys those of us who paid $650 for the phone, and also annoys people who hoped to get it for $299, and didn't luck into seeing the offer early enough.
HTC now has exactly 200 more owners of the M8- ineffective promotions at the direct to consumer level does not ignite more demand for a brand that has floundered on marketing. Gorgeous product with a haphazard approach to the camera, the M8 still needs some real viral marketing beyond 200 discounted phones.
