I really want to see a review on that printer!

Even though it has about zero chance of success, the Sprout is really cool and I'd love to try one out!

Would rather have a projected screen on the desk next to the keyboard and ofc i would never buy an all in one or even a prebuilt desktop. So it would be nice if they would release it as a peripheral with a motorized higher res projector that can also be used for large screen viewing on a wall but pricing would likely not be all that favorable.
As for the printer, it's not consumer and comes in 2016 at likely 10's of thousands of $ so rather disappointing.

This is definitely an odd device that will not sell well, but the technology involved is extremely interesting and even exciting to some degree. I'm not real sure of the benefits of the projector/scanner over a high-sensitivity touchscreen/touchpad for artistic work where people would normally use a Wacom, but the 3D scanning probably makes a difference for some use cases, and it's just cool in an abstract sense. If they sold that camera/scanner/pad combo as an add-on to a normal PC, I think it would sell.

I'm curious as to why HP doesn't have an active digitizer or incorporate Adonit's bluetooth pressure sensitive technology.

Not sure about the commercial prospects of the Sprout but this is where the future is headed. Combining a psuedo 3D Scanner, touch surface and a projector, got to give them major props if it all works well together.

The Sprout is generally uninteresting. The 3D printer, though, that has a chance to be revolutionary. If they live up to their claims, and produce big increases in both print quality and speed, it'll be huge.

Hmm, does "mxm" mean that the gpu is on a mxm module? That suggests this is potentially upgradeable.

Screw iPads in the classroom, put one of these at every desk. With the right software this could be the ultimate education tool.

I really don't get the projector part. Seems like having a secondary (high resolution touch) screen/tablet - think Wacom Cintiq style, would be a much better way to handle the lower display. You would still have the 3D camera, etc- and though its seems totally kitsch right now- i am sure devs could come up with cool use cases. But having a projector for the secondary display, with your hands casting shadows on it, obvious brightness issues, etc makes no sense to me. Anyone know why they would have chosen a DLP over a second LCD? I Guess if it projected directly on a desk that would be one thing but this device clearly uses a touch pad anyway.

This is the real innovation, not the trash can shaped PC case.
  • Zertzable - Friday, October 31, 2014 - link

Innovative, sure, but is it better?
  • p1esk - Friday, October 31, 2014 - link

    I don't know, I haven't tried it.
I think the PC industry today needs "innovative" more than it needs "better".
