Looks like a nice phone, and I hope Sprint's data network can deal with Voice services. Speaking of which, anyone having 3G issues on Sprint's network lately? It's been very off-and-on here (sadly, mostly off). It says I'm connected with strong signal, but it is a bust most times. And I live in the city they are based out of! :o

Also, as a note to Anandtech's web design staff, I always have to login every time I comment under Google Chrome + Windows 7. I check the "remember me?" box each time, and each time it doesn't seem to work. Am I missing something?

The Google Voice implementation doesn't use the data network. It uses Sprint's normal voice network. That is why it works with all Sprint phones.

Disappointingly, Google Voice does not do MMS, otherwise it'd switch over completely.

I agree. As someone who HAS completely switched over, it can be a bit of a pain, and it's the only thing keeping me from recommending that everyone I know with an android phone switch, too.
Of course, the other question is whether this integration might finally push Google to do something about MMS. (At least provide some sort of notification to the sender that it won't be delivered rather than dumping it in a black hole somewhere...)

    Thoughts?

The Nexus S will be released this spring, so expect it soonish.

You completely missed the much higher profile Sprint phone semi announcement, the Evo 3D.

    From Sprint's FAQ:

"If I sign up for Google Voice, will I be charged for text messages if I don't have a plan or add-on that includes text messages?

You can send text messages through Google Voice on the web or through the Google Voice for Android app without incurring a fee from Sprint. Texts sent directly from your phone will be treated as any other text message, so if you are not on a plan that includes texts you'll be charged the standard messaging fees."

So if I use web or Android app to send text messages, what number will show up on the recipient's end? Sprint # or Google Voice's #?

Your GV# will show up if you use the app, unless you don't set up a GV account, it will use your Sprint #, but that might mean that you will get duplicate texts...not sure how they are going to set up these pseudo GV accounts...

Cause this looks awesome. Really though I'm just commenting to echo MonkeyPaw's issue as I have the same issue. Chrome + Win 7 and this...

"Also, as a note to Anandtech's web design staff, I always have to login every time I comment under Google Chrome + Windows 7. I check the "remember me?" box each time, and each time it doesn't seem to work. Am I missing something?"

    ...is annoying.

Weird, I haven't quite encountered this yet, though I have noticed being logged out before. I'll forward this on for certain, thanks!

If they don't kill this partnership in the meantime; end of verizon contract = switch to sprint

I can't use it for calls because there's a noticeable lag normally-but it sounds like on Sprint there won't be. Pretty cool, and cool Sprint's getting a Nexus, which to me seems like what you want when it comes to Android (save maybe for the Experia).

Too bad US Cellular probably won't have a Nexus.

It looks more and more like Sprint will be abandoning ALL HP OS products and go All Android! That means no Pre3 for Sprint! As a Palm user for 8 years it's too bad! Hello Nexus!

As a Sprint customer with an Android phone, I've been keeping my eye on Google Voice for a couple months. In theory, this sounds like it will be great! Plus, for anyone who likes to root their Android phone and use custom ROMs, it's probably much easier to get Google Voice working for voicemail than it is the Sprint Visual Voicemail (which actually works VERY well).

I have heard that if you make/receive calls with a Google Voice number, that it uses a landline. Does anyone know if that is true? I'm wondering how integrating your Sprint number with Google Voice affects "Any Mobile Anytime?" It would be ridiculous for every call to use your minutes. Hopefully, every call would still count as coming from/to your mobile device. It's very rare that I use any minutes as most calls I make/receive are from mobile numbers. I'd like it to stay that way. And Google Voice ought to do MMS if it wants to be a go-to app. Don't MMS go through the data network anyway?

To get an Android phone on Sprint, you have to get a plan that includes unlimited text messaging, so how exactly does this do anything? Seems like a big yawner to me.
