Ok, so on the heels of One Plus 7 Pro launch, this has less storage, less RAM, lower capacity battery and an insane price. Competing with Galaxy S10 in price and OP 7 Pro in feature? Was a Sony fan once upon a time, not worth it from quite some time. Maybe start a new brand, drop off Xperia...
For 20 years or so I was a die hard Sony fan. I bought many thing Sony’s from TVs, laptops, headphones, phones... you name it. I thought they were the best until I had the chance to try others when the US market opened up with more varieties, especially online. However, the US market has not fully opened for fair competition. If it has, I don’t think Sony or Samsung would stand a chance against Chinese companies whose products can match their qualities but sold at a much more affordable price.
Now before you shout more nonsense, please do some research first. For smart phones, you can go to website like gsmarena to compare Sony phones with others in their specs, technology advancements, price, release dates. To sum it up, Sony price their phones at premium but their phones suck in all aspects.
I won't say Sony phones aren't expensive, cause they are, but they hardly suck in all aspects. They slightly lag behind the other companies, while charging the same prices.
Now if they were charging the same prices, while cramming midrange parts into their flagship phones, then I'd say they suck in all aspects.
Umm its a OLED screen, its not like its a battery killer. lol Storage is fine and ram is plenty. Basically you are paying for the screen which should of been obvious. Its a good phone if want the best screen in market.
Screen on OP is good too. I'm not telling this is a bad product it's way too overpriced for what it gives. Even if the starting model is 99 bucks less 64 gb is not good enough. Sure you may pay 9 50 for the screen, individual choice 👍
The display of the Xperia 1 can display 2K at 120hz, but even with that locked is the only display on the market with the minimum coverage of BT.2020 and 10 bits of depth, just with that the price reasonable good
If I'm buying a phone for 950,I'd like to have more than just 1 component which is good. 1 thing I missed in my initial comment is the Android + security updates.
If you think the Rec.2020 support is anything other than a marketing checkmark, you're out of your mind. Aside from being basically zero content that's currently targeted towards that color space, there's about the same chance the display can actually reproduce anywhere close to that spec. Even some higher-end professional monitors for PCs can at most do 79% of the Rec.2020 color space.
Well to start, this phone is WAY more comfortable to hold than the Oppo. And it is only 172 grams instead of 200. Thanks Sony. But I would miss the 90hz screen of the Oppo.
28 grams isn’t 28 pounds. Are you that lazy or just physically weak? I’d rather hold a 300 grams phone which has a battery that can last for 2 days than hold a phone with charger and cable or a portable battery along with it.
They should make a really light phone, 50 grams or less with 20 minutes battery life for the lazy fat bums.
I think the only ones who can determine if it's worthwhile are the people who work in the professional market, people who use alpha cameras and know how to properly assess the phone as part of their workflow and as second gear. OP 7 can have battery and ram but isn't really a choice that for that market.
I am part of the market I thought. Is Sony not looking for selling it to a wider audience 🤔 Lot of people need SD card, some need 3.5 mm jack. Surprisingly for a camera market second gear device, 64 GB without expansion slot is pretty limited.
Am I the only one that feels like 18.5:9 is too thin, let alone 21:9?
On one hand, too many phones chase trends and are worse for it. On the other hand, Sony is imagining problems and desires that I don't think anyone has.
Agree. Trying to type on one of this sliver-like phones promises to be a pain for anyone with larger hands. And holding it in landscape is not exactly a work-around. Wish that at least some makers would have mid- and high-end phones that retain the 16:9 aspect ratio.
It really took this long...should have given them enough time to completely remake the camera system, it'd better be worth it.
If this is a professional screen, is it real 10bit or 8+2 dithered like the Oneplus? If it really doubles as a 10bit monitor then the price would seem pretty excusable too.
Ya, that's what I'm looking towards, although rumors has it as a 6.1" and won't be this weird long phone like the Xperia 1. So probably not compact, but more regular.
Hey phone manufacturers - I don't want a phone that has an overly long screen. The content isn't designed for it, it means it's even harder to reach those buttons with my thumb at the top of the screen and it uses more battery!
Lot of things about this phone have slipped under the radar such as being able to control Venice camera, use it as wireless viewfinder on Venice as well, they claim serious color calibration and accuracy. Yes panel is true 10bit with dedicated hardware bits for display itself so X1 engine can run etc. Camera has some tricks up it's sleeve such as AF burst in full resolution without any motion blur, predictive capture of four frames in full resolution. These are some things that Sony phones have been able to do for a while when Pixel and iPhone don't. It's especially evident when bursting at moving objects. Anyhow Xperia 1 is geared toward video making.
As somebody who reads a lot on my phone including tech pdfs I really hate how phone makers implement 21:9. Instead of making the phone longer they make it narrower. Previous Xperia was 80mm wide. This one only 72mm. I need width for comfortable reading. I guess the good news is with this one is coming soon. Old version to be had 50%+ off.
