Yeah, they can afford to pay millions in RND and tens of millions in marketing but can't afford to pay for a certification test that the cheapest fitness trackers can afford.
The "cheapest fitness trackers" often straight-up lie about certification, just like cheap SD cards lie about storage capacity. Who's going to hold them accountable?
I'd like a One Plus 7 Minimal with 5" size, same exact hardware specs except obviously a slightly smaller screen size, a headphone jack, and US availability. Easy win, tons of sales. But no, go do something goofy instead, One Plus. Way to fail.
I don't care about the "hardware specs" anymore. It's Android that's the problem, I think we all know that by now. It's too inefficient. Amazing chinese phones are coming out for $200. You're going to need A LOT of features to convince me not just to use that instead. If I'm paying over $600, I need: -waterproofing -wireless charging -FRONT STEREO SPEAKERS SO I CAN HEAR THE PHONE -microSD (for 4k video) -4600mAh battery (vibe p2 has 5000mAh).
I want to be able to set my phone down to charge it, play videos in fullscreen while being able to hear them at good volume, and be able to use my phone for several days in a power saving mode. If it doesn't have that, and it's the same as every other feature-less piece of junk... then just count me out completely. $200 budget phones forever.
Almost forgot headphone jack. Why? Because billions of devices worldwide support it, and I want to be able to charge and listen at the same time if I'm waiting in the doctor's office or on the train etc. without messing with an adapter. If you're going to put no headphone jack, you need to put a headphone jack ON THE CHARGING CABLE itself. This should be obvious.

Here's the thing, 98% of people have been brainwashed by "experts" to believe:
-You don't need a bigger battery, just charge your phone all the time! -You don't need front stereo speakers, just cup your hand around the phone! -You don't need microSD, just use the cloud which costs money! (and seems to resize your pictures) -You don't need wireless charging, just plug in the phone every time! It's the same thing! -You DO need to pay $999+ so we can make some money!!
Sorry, I am not falling for the scam anymore. I will NEVER, EVER pay full price for a phone that isn't fully-featured. And I mean front stereo speakers, waterproof, 5000mah battery, SD card, wireless charging, pop-out camera - everything. I don't care if it's 10mm thick, just do it and I'll buy it.
Wireless charging isn't just a convenience feature - it saves the USB port. USB-C is better than micro-USB in that regard, but it still wears out over time.
I agree. It's not just the port itself but manufacturer's implementation, whether the port itself flexes, or the motherboard.. and no matter how you slice it, there's always stress on the cable. I can't even count the amount of micro-USB cables I've had go dead, it's probably over 20 by now.
Eventually, I'd be willing to make the ultimate trade-off and have an all-screen phone, with no ports OR buttons, OR slots. Completely clean design. The hard reset/powerbutton would be a clicky plastic bit on the back which bends if you apply enough pressure in the right spot. Everything else is tap-to-wake, or volume controls on the touchscreen itself. Digital SIM. Use a mini bluetooth receiver for your earbuds that goes in your shirt pocket, and you can potentially listen for 50+ hours. Airpods are 93mWh, so at least 10x life. You'd still need gaskets for the mics and two front speakers, but they'd be very good gaskets - double or triple protection.
Some people and many reviewer will find this the dream phones. For me, and probably many others, it's not the phone I want. Way too big, I like small phones à la S10e No headphone jack Curved screen For someone like me the s10e or even the pixel 3a are much better and cheaper options (Samsung prices go down a lot in time) Speed is not an issue since even my S7 is fine for what I do with a phone (browsing, messaging, media etc are all done via tablets with keyboards)
Sad to see them move up and up in price. Honestly I think that the improvement in quality really has not warranted the continuous price hike. I'd take a bit fatter bezels a serviceable camera 3-4gb of ram and a decent soc. At a great price over a 700+ phone anytime. I have 0 reasons to upgrade right now from my axon7. Maybe one and that is the sub par vibration motor.
That's one reason why I'm keeping my LG G7, the vibration motor is perfect, but I wanted a 90hz screen. It's sad that there isn't a cheaper and smaller 90hz product, the Oppo Pro 7 size and weight doesn't interest me. The G7 is 162 grams Oppo, nice try. 206 grams, no thank you.
You can get a 7 or 6T still that is cheaper and has a tiny bit of a bezel, and serviceable camera, more RAM than you state and very good SoC for around 500 to 550.
90hz screen, UFS 3.0 storage, and faster SOC. The 7 Pro is WAY faster than the 6T. That's what he wants, like me, the screen and speed for a low price.
They keep pushing the price up bc Samsung and Apple are keep pushing the price. All OnePlus does is to make sure they are a bit cheaper than the premium phones in the market.
If my understanding is correct, the Pro version cost $200 more because of the better screen and more cameras? Personally I couldn't tell the difference between 1080P and 1440P on a tiny smartphone screen, nor 90Hz refresh rate interests me, I guess I am sticking with the regular 7 then. For $500 it's still quite a bargain.
Stronger SoC developed in-house Highly optimized Hardware/Software experience Great idle battery life (note I said idle. iOS does have an advantage in that term... just they have smaller batteries overall) 3D facial scanning features (Does cost more than a simple selfie cam) better long-time support with (in my opinion) best in class customer service.
There's many reasons why Apple phones are priced the way they are. This OnePlus isn't even that amazing of a device in my opinion. Lacking features I personally find better on the Note 9. Headphone Jack, SD card storage, Wireless charging, IP68 certified, no pop-up camera gimmick.
I also wanna note 90hz display isn't even new. Asus did a 90hz panel, and Razer did a 120hz. OnePlus is just the first to do it on a more "consumer" device if you will (IE: Not gaming)
The refresh frequency isn't new, but for sure it's the first OLED 90 Hz display, as the ones before were all IPS. I've also read somewhere that the touch input is scanned at 135 Hz, so that helps as well.
Yeah, but the iPhone has negatives too. Hands-down the worst keyboard of any phone on the market. Still no back button or gesture, Horrible UI from 2007, can’t choose default apps, cost too much, huge notch, Siri nowhere near as good as Google now, also no headphone jack or SD.
This is a more apt question for Samsung than Apple. It is the Android OEM's which are competing on specs rather than on overall experience of using the device plus sales and aftersales.
OnePlus 7 Pro makes the Galaxy S10 look terribly overpriced and under specc'd. More than anyone Samsung should be worried.
Hmm, that Plus display looks awfully curved to me: Only makes it easier to break or damage--leave being stupid to the new Samsung (post Note 3)!
I got large enough hands so I could operate a Note 1 (16:10) one handed with a proper fat silicon sleeve around it. But even with a grip of steel, some tissue will overlap the edge, covering the first and last letters or so of every line of screen content: What good does that do?
I could go with the non-Plus, but the higher resolution and 90Hz refresh would actually make the Plus a great VR headset device. So far OnePlus has been a strict opponent of Daydream and the likes...
I have a really nice and solid yet light LeEco LeVR headset adapter that works very well with my LeEco Le Max 2 and (after plenty of twiddling) also with the OnePlus 5: It doesn't really compare to an Oculus Rift, but for a quick demo they are rather nice and they really shine on 3D movies (even 2D) and it's comfortable enough to use on a transatlantic trip. And why buy an extra Oculus Go (or whatever they call it), if it's really just a downgrade?
What about the USB? Is that finally USB3 and will it support DisplayPort and a docking mode?
Without some meaningful functional additions, buying an upgrade from my OnePLus 5 just doesn't make any sense. For what a smartphone alone can and needs to do, the 835 continues to prove its worth. It never feels slow and the battery has never dropped below 50% for me, even on the longest of days (if I find time to game, I do that on a PCs).
I know those are niches, but these days you need to add a couple of niches just to rise above the middle class mainstream.
The US prices listed for the 7 Pro in the table are higher than the prices listed on their website: $669, $699, $749. Especially at the top end, that is quite a large difference. If the website prices are correct, it would make the phone a lot more appealing. $750 for a flagship with 12 GB RAM and 256 GB storage is very nice.
Apple does not have headphone jack or sd slot, yet you don't seem to complain about those because it's apple? Not many people care about wireless charging as much as you think, waterproofing is nice to have though.
But it's QHD screen? OP7 doesn't have a price yet... If OP7 Pro have $669, maybe the regular OP7 will have $469? That's pretty cheap for the specs imo.
I know it is very much personal preference but I like having the fingerprint sensor on the back of the phone. I think having it under the screen on the front of the phone is clunky and isn't as natural of a motion as it is on the back of the phone. Also the lack of wireless charging is somewhat of a turn-off for me after finally being reunited with it with the pixel 3XL. It is such a nice and convenient feature both in that you don't need to plug your phone in and you can also set it on a stand and use it as a small clock and display the weather. Lastly, the pixel phones really have me locked in with the unlimited original quality photo storage on Google photos. That is a huge draw for me. If this phone was a pixel phone and had wireless charging I would be all over this. I am a huge fan of a pop-up selfie camera. I never take selfies and would much rather have an uninterrupted screen. I hope Google takes note of this. That being said, I still think the best solution is having a small OLED screen on the back of the phone so you can just use the rear camera as a selfie camera. Plus you can show notifications on the back of your phone if it is face down. It is truly The Best of both worlds.
Who buys these?! Though I like the display, the price is not justified considering it has no jack, expandable storage, wireless charging, ip rating but present in the Samsung, now at the same price.
I feel OnePlus is becoming too gimmicky. Maybe that is because they're becoming more mainstream, but I feel they may be losing their way, and favouring form over function. OnePlus 5t is what I use at the moment. It has a fatter bezels yet I still sometimes accidentally tap the screen just by holding it. Also replacing the screen on a OnePlus 5t isn't the easiest, but repairibility of the OnePlus 6 and newer has become even more burdensome. I also still find a headphone jack to be handy; USB headphones adapters still aren't ubiquitous enough to not be an inconvenience. OnePlus 7 should be the function over form phone. Let the 7 Pro be the gimmick.
"Here we see a similar mechanical mechanism as used on the Oppo Find X, but just narrowed down to a small part containing the front camera module." ...which I believe to be the exact solution used on Vivo NEX.

Let the 7 Pro be the gimmick.gokul - Thursday, May 16, 2019 - link

"Here we see a similar mechanical mechanism as used on the Oppo Find X, but just narrowed down to a small part containing the front camera module."...which I believe to be the exact solution used on Vivo NEX.
