We all know the joke... what did the bird say as they flew over K.............. no??? lol
Anyways... I've had this graphix card going on 2 years now? With the system a Q6600 oc'd at 3.2 stable (i watercool it now with the corsair 70 something or other)...
Should I upgrade my crappy gfx card or cpu? OR BOTH??? What is the advice? Motherboard mind you... must be able to oc the crap outta it... (not super crap just like after a night of drinking crap... ;O )
Well anyway, I wouldn't call either "crappy" and think they're both probably very very useable, BUT if you've got the money and/or need, you can do enough better now that upgrading wouldn't be silly IMO.
The marketing ploy to shortchange people already happened (670M / 675M rebrand). This is, at last, the release of some decent performance-class notebook hardware and that can only be a good thing.
It's a shame they already screwed the pooch on the names, though, meaning they've had to bolt on ridiculous quantities of RAM to make it obvious which cards are better.
Thankfully Alienware is being smart enough to not get caught in NVIDIA's ploy. I bet they will use the 2 GB variant of the GTX 675MX and the 1.5 GB variant of GTX 670MX.
One peculiar thing though, the GK104 and GK106 are capable of reaching and exceeding 1200 MHz on the desktop GPus, but they only manage 600 MHz on the notebook side.
It's not that the GPUs can't hit higher clocks; it's a matter of hitting those clocks within a certain TDP. Core and RAM clocks are both higher on the desktop because the TDP is much greater; on notebooks, the highest TDP we've seen is ~100W, and these second tier mobile GPUs are more likely in the 60-75W TDP range.
Unless I'm seeing something different than you, the first graph has a gamma target around 2.4 while the second is around 2.2, so they're labeled correctly.
Yes, because of course the notebook vars do not know what any chip they get with the wrong name is capable of, and cannot imagine anything but how badly they were tricked, as they offered the several hundred dollar price difference UPGRADES in their laptops.
I agree, as the idiot drooling monkey stared at the name, that overcame all knee jerk response his or her wallet provided in the obvious several hundred dollar (less or more than $100x who gives crap you fools) price differences.
It would be interesting to have an actual case cited for anyone getting shortchanged, instead of the usual frenzy posters go into assuming the rest of the computer world is illiterate and can't purchase a couple thousand dollar piece of hardware without being a buffoon.
Is it at least possible that those with thick wallets acquired said wallets because they have a bit more sense than the duped retard all you fantasy haters assume exist everywhere ?
Maybe it's a mirror reflection with you people - you go into an unstoppable bad luck and drooling mode before you extract whatever pence you have collected then find out of course it wasn't the dream you fantasized about as you scraped lunch money together for the big move ahead. It's easy for you then to blame the name it was called, instead of actually accepting you're the fool who cannot handle it.
I actually believe that to be the case. If anyone wants the best there is, they will find there are very limited choices in this particular space. A few moments is all it would take for the average C student who doesn't drool all day long to determine the performance grades in between the 3 or 4 choices available no matter their call sign.
Further, any idiot who isn't aware there just might be a slight bit of marketing going on in thousand dollar items probably has no idea what the naming schema of any GPU company currently is or has been at any time, and likely won't know distinguish the two major brands.
So of course, we are down to the real truth. It is you of course, the little angry hater with the GPU obsession, who feels like a big man and wants to share his pride of just handed to him knowledge with those he wishes were just as pathetic as to appreciate it, thus in the end, the only people getting duped are the ones in constant complaint mode over this.
It's time you people closed the traps and gave those spending several thousand dollars (something you whining fools obviously have never done, or have been stupid duped idiots doing as I pointed out, a problem shared by very few and a shame to you) of their money a bit more credit than anyone with any sense can possibly give you.
Yes, of course, an obsessed freaking FPS gamer is not going to have a clue and will compulsively buy whatever NUMBER makes their peenie feel happy, right ? Right, you're so right... ( if you didn't detect angry sarcasm don't ever spend any money on your own)
To further point out the ridiculous premise you people spew about in reactionary parrot mode every single time, I went to the Origin site and quickly noted in under 30 seconds the gpu choices are (gasp) accompanied by PRICING DIFFERENCES that are in fact, quite large.
Now I imagine, someone as thick as you, would go to the purchase arena, and seeing a name used for a GPU chip, would buy it, expecting of course whatever performance your immense experience dictated it would provide, while hopping up and down in joy joy mode that you just got the $100 GPU upgrade that in fact surpasses the $500 GPU upgrade, because not only are nVidia marketers evil, but they have duped the ENTIRE industry, even those who design, manufacture, and sell said gaming notebooks, into a pricing scheme in a marketplace that has absolutely no relation to reality of performance of the GPU arch in the gaming laptop.
I mean it's just frikkin AMAZING you people are so devoid of any thought what so ever.
Whats up with nvidias mobile department, it seems to be run by a bag of gerbals. Their 7900 was one of the last decent mobile chips. Then we got the lawsuits. I got 2 POS compaqs with single cores from $1500 17" HP Entertainment laptops. Thanks. At least kepler is finally wielding its head and its pretty decent too, enough to drive most pathetic laptop resolutions (i'm still using my Dell 17" with 1920x1200 reso, it had a 7900 but got replaced twice, finally replaced again with a radeon x1400, which doesnt die at least.) And what is this 3GB/4GB memory stuff. Its twice as much as my desktop 670s that might actually use that much memory if I get some of those awesome LG 27" screens. Makes not sense at all.
The memory is entirely a marketing exercise, to make sure the consumer knows these cards are "better" than the 7970M. Funny thing is, if you care about battery life and simple driver updates in your notebook, they really are better. Very odd.
Do you expect them to throw away a ton of perfectly good older 670M's(580's whatever)? You like the prices? They'd go WAY up if they didn't clear out old stock in some way shape or form. I don't believe they are trying to screw customers, rather trying to clear old product. The fact they're marketing the higher end with gobs of memory lets any buyer know what they're getting. Get over it. This is called smart business. The memory may be a waste but it makes it easy for the buyer to figure out what's going on without knowing silly nomenclature in most cases.
The gaming laptop freak, or his mommie, certainly cannot judge by price, nor by asking the vendor, nor by a quick internet check in a few minutes, when they go to spend 2 grand on the new toy.
I think you're all correct, everyone is so stupid that 2 grand comes and goes while the crybaby duped consumer finds out they've been had... since they "just knew" the "performance factor" of the "name" of the "gpu" so well and found out they were such an idiot after being such and expert on DESKTOP GPU's.... (believe that one and they'll tell us another)
Right, this whole discussi0on does NOTHING for any consumer - all it does it stroke the hate filled egos of the idiots in the comments section.
At the vendor, PRICE dictates a guideline, not the pretty numbers and names.
OH NOES IT COULDN'T BE!
How much you wanna bet these crybabies have a penny pinching mental amd fanboy type obsession...
I wouldn't mind one bit if the crybabies went to the Origin site and informed the dumbed down public here what a terrible deal this or that price was on the various GPU upgrades....
Of course anyone buying won't have that price cue... they will be IDIOTS under the plague of the evil conspiring naming PR team....
" I feel sorry for them".....(rolls eyes)
The crybabies here are probably also bat crazy jealous anyone else gets the 2 grand gaming laptop, so they have to tell themselves and us that "that lucky person got fooled! and got a piece of crap! " - as their green jealousy burns their soul to the core.
"Origin PC was the first to get into our mailbox announcing immediate availability of these GPUs, but undoubtedly they will gradually become available from other vendors as well."
This is wrong, but not blaming anandtech as the Origin press release says "Origin PC's newest additions to their EON gaming laptops are available now".
Origin PC DO NOT have immediate availability, they are getting stock the same time as everyone else. If you spec up on their website the eta says 10/31 so its pretty misleading of Origin to say that, blatant attempt to jump the competition without being able to back it up:-(
According to the NVIDIA product comparison sheet, the Quadro K3000M has a 256-bit bus, which would point to it actually being a really heavily cut down (in terms of SMXes at least) GK104.

LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLAs I suspected. It is you whom is not capable to purchase a gaming laptop, not those who "amazingly" are so smart as to avoid being fooled.....
You people need to do all of us a favor and just drop the stupidity of immense proportion.
In a gaming laptop, the PRICE of the GPU upgrade is one indicator that we don't need a crybaby fool worried about imaginary failure of others.
