No VGA?! What's wrong with these people? How am I supposed to make this work with my 486DX? Stupid design decisions from stupid design-deciding-deciders!

How is this supposed to plug into my iSBX 275 Video Graphics Controller Multimodule Board?

Don't even get me started with the lack of a MDA port.

    I'm fuming.

Hey, I got a K6-2 sittin' next to me and I'd like to get some 43" Doom. Big F'ing Gun, indeed... oh, it is a 60 Hz display. Never mind, Doom runs at 70 Hz.

In all seriousness, though... CAN we go back to VGA? HDMI is just awful in a multitude of ways, and I'm not really sure how much DisplayPort actually is.

HDMI has no place outside of an AV stack, and should just not be present of desktop monitors at all. DisplayPort or nothing (even dual-link DVI has insufficient bandwidth to handle modern displays).

While I agree that DisplayPort _should_ be the default PC video interface, the fact is that most people are find HDMI familiar and comfortable. It looks like DP is on its way out as a result of HDMI steadily gaining in popularity.

4k and not even DP 1.4? Lame.
  • sandtitz - Thursday, March 5, 2020 - link

This is a 4k@60 monitor, DP 1.2 is enough.
  • Valantar - Thursday, March 5, 2020 - link

Yeah, why splurge for a fancy controller supporting 1.4 when it's not going to be utilized anyhow? Sounds rather wasteful.
  • extide - Thursday, March 5, 2020 - link

It has a MST HUB and DP OUT port. With DP 1.4 you could chain a second 4K60 display from this screen, and have enough B/W. With DP 1.2, the output port is essentially useless.

As a TV this look great. It's getting difficult these days to find one that comes without malware.

No HDMI 2.1, no Displayport 1.4+, outdated I/O (no USB4 or Thunderbolt 3?), & abysmal HDR for a 2020 product.

And how many monitors support what you just mentioned? And just to make clear, there is no such thing as a USB 4 capable monitor or high HDR for IPS.

And not curved. Why you would want 40"+ of real estate and not have it wrap around the user....is beyond me.
