Would make an awesome router, although it may be slightly overpowered for the task!

Finally an AMD Ryzen based NUC.

These are the only NUCs worth buying.

A bit on the expensive side, but considering the lack of competition from the competitor, I guess they can charge whatever they like for it.

It’s not a NUC dumbass. Learn to read.
  • nathanddrews - Tuesday, November 19, 2019 - link

Hostile much? While it's not technically a "NUC" - the proprietary Intel form factor - it is a small computer that looks like a NUC made by a company with NUC in its name.

As for its router capabilities, it could be pretty good, just a shame it doesn't have WiFi 6.
  • cdoublejj - Wednesday, November 20, 2019 - link

i wouldn't bother with on board wifi 6, i'd leave that up to a dedicated AP but, i can see people wanting to save some $$$ by having a wifi 6 NIC onboard.

When building my untnagle router i though about leaving the on board WiFi NIC in place just for an extra service wifi for IoT devices. so there may be alternative options for a less than new wifi NIC??? Also I've seen some NICs are removable on some boards.

No HDMI? These would be awesome HTPC boxes.

    "two Mini DisplayPort outputs"
Adapters are passive so cheap. ;)
  • SpectraOne - Friday, November 15, 2019 - link

Only if they are Dual-mode (DP++) can you add a cheep passive adaptor since DP++ has a HDMI mode switch.

    They are though.

I'd love to buy an SFF PC with an AMD Zen 2 (Ryzen 3000-series) processor. Does anyone sell one of those?
  • Oh650r - Thursday, November 14, 2019 - link

ASRock desk mini a300w. Drop in a 3000 series ryzen and go.
  • kaidenshi - Friday, November 15, 2019 - link

The 3xxx APUs are Zen+, not Zen2. Thanks for the confusing naming, AMD.

But yes, I just put together a system using the A300w and it's a beast for what it is. It's surprisingly quiet even under heavy load and it seems to be more tolerant of RAM not on the QVL than other AM4 systems I've built.
  • condorSF - Friday, November 15, 2019 - link

Thanks, Oh650r and kaidenshi, for pointing me to ASRock.

https://www.asrock.com/nettop/AMD/DeskMini%20A300%... says that the A300 series supports the 3400G and 3400GE. Those are Zen 2 chips, right? I know they're not the highest-performance chips in the lineup, but still.
  • Holliday75 - Friday, November 15, 2019 - link

Those are Zen+ cpu's. Like mentioned above AMD really screwed the pooch with the naming conventions.
  • cdoublejj - Wednesday, November 20, 2019 - link

that thing is MASSIVE compared to a NUC Like
  • hanselltc - Friday, November 15, 2019 - link

There are no APU's with Zen 2 yet, so I doubt it.
  • Foeketijn - Friday, November 15, 2019 - link

I guess AMD is really throwing everything they can at producing enough zen2 chips to put in the higher margin products. And don't have time to make Zen 2 APU's or embedded procs. I just sold a asrock AM4 server because I can't wait any longer for a Zen 2 embedded Epyc. I would go for AMD NUC's if they where Zen 2. And I sell quite some Intel NUC's in a year.
  • Holliday75 - Friday, November 15, 2019 - link

Zen2 APU's are scheduled to be released Q1 2020 under the 4000 series naming convention.

    There's a 512gb ssd limitation? What?
  • 1_rick - Thursday, November 14, 2019 - link

At a guess, it's due to the M.2 only taking 2242. (If there are any 2242 drives bigger than 512GB I don't think I've heard of them.)
  • 1_rick - Thursday, November 14, 2019 - link

Never mind--the thing must simply be wrong, because if you click through to their website and enter the product configurator they sell up to 2TB drives.
  • Soulkeeper - Thursday, November 14, 2019 - link

    Do they support ecc ?
  • PixyMisa - Friday, November 15, 2019 - link

The embedded Epyc chips themselves do: https://www.amd.com/system/files/documents/v1000-f...

This system doesn't seem to list it anywhere.
  • Soulkeeper - Thursday, November 14, 2019 - link

They have a configuration option for 2x32GB sodimms, but don't mention what speed/type.
    Impressive.
  • 1_rick - Friday, November 15, 2019 - link

The CPU itself supports up to DDR4-2400 according to wikichip (and AMD. I couldn't find if it supported faster speeds with less memory.)
  • Soulkeeper - Friday, November 15, 2019 - link

My ryzen laptop don't support the 32GB of ecc sodimms I have in it. So that's why I asked.
  • PixyMisa - Friday, November 15, 2019 - link

I believe that with the laptop APUs, only the Pro parts support ECC. But the Epyc embedded chips all do.
  • Soulkeeper - Friday, November 15, 2019 - link

It's a pro, lenovo just didn't add ecc support in the bios.
  • PixyMisa - Friday, November 15, 2019 - link

Well, that sucks. Boo, Lenovo. BOO!
  • mode_13h - Friday, November 15, 2019 - link

Does the mobo even have the extra traces for it?
  • deil - Friday, November 15, 2019 - link

oh yes, dual core 4C/8T perfect
  • PhysicsNurd - Friday, November 15, 2019 - link

First Ryzen UCFF? I think the UDOO Bolt beat them to market...
  • PhysicsNurd - Friday, November 15, 2019 - link

Ahh, just re-read it and saw "its" first, my bad.
