"14 inch cover table" (first paragraph) had me confused for a moment there. I get almost the exact same impression as with the 13" but with thinner bezels, which isn't a bad thing.
Lenovo manages to include all of those on their ThinkPad keyboards without resorting to an additional column of keys on the side, messing up the balance and layout. It just comes down to making a good design, which HP hasn't done here. On the other hand, I once used a Lenovo Yoga that had this exact type of layout (and I hated it), so it's not like they're immune to this disease.
With modern notebooks, they are powerful to replace most desktop and you can still hook them up multiple monitors and keyboards and mouse. Then you might say why not get a desktop, because I hard to lug a desktop onto a plane, use on sofa, on your bed or for business in a meeting place.
One day desktops are clearly going to be part of the pass - except for hard core gamer which I was and someway still at 57 desktop still have purpose. Likely also for 3d production houses
I just realize the Lenovo Y50 has keypad on it keyboard that I am using currently - but then it has a 15 in screen.
What most people really hate about the collaboration keyboard are that insert (and a number of other functions) are "gone" and it's not documented anywhere except for quickspecs (or calling Elite support) where they went. As much as I'd like to talk to you, this chart should help:
Would buy this if only they put a normal dGPU in there, either MX150 or 1050 or even some lowest-end quadro. Because even that would be lightyears better than fucking intel garbage graphics.
First Elitebook branded convertible? Huh? The Elitebook x360 line isn't exactly new y'know.
There's the x360 1030 which has 3 generations and 1040 which has 5 generations now. I'm Frontline support for the Elite line, I help people with these every day.
(Disclosure: I am an HP employee at PPS-CSS-AMS who supports the Elite line, the opinions expressed are my own)
Please tell your boss to make something with: 3:2 display 3K+ display Proper thermals MX150/gtx1050/entry level quadro 13", ~1.3kg Keyboard with home/end/pgup/down keys (i.e. keep the current x360 keyboard, dont macfagify it) I have x360-13t with 4K screen and everything about it is great except the garbage intel graphics.
Why are they sticking with 1.77 aspect ratio. I need a new laptop but as I am longsighted would have to run this at 1080 in order to read. Means the screen is a letterbox. My only options are apple/surface (too expensive) or the matebook x. This whole 1080 screen size is nonsense for productivity.
the elitebook 840s and 1040s (whatever generation is the latest) X360s (had one of two G4s require a new screen as the digitizer decided to keep resetting to a particular screen position randomly, but replaced under warranty) have been good value so far. I can get them though procurement channels at government pricing which comes in quite a bit under retail, the build quality is excellent especially with staff routinely taking them offsite and subjecting them to bumps and scrapes (CNC body comes in very handy when this happens) the ultraslim docks have for the most part been reliable, I have only had two usb-c charging docks to play with so far and occasionally they can be a little glitchly (i think this could be fixed with a bit more user training on docking procedures)... with the 840 G5 and the ultraslim dock there was a problem with the laptop going into powersave randomly after a minute, this was fixed with a recent BIOS update.
But yeah, very happy with them so far ... they have held up much better than other fruily flavored laptops (I work in an academic environment where that brand has around 50% client buy in :/) out of 11 mbp touches purchased this year two needed full bottom case replacements (one needed two bottom case replacements!! out of the box and this on a 15" w 16GB/1TB $3k plus machine)...

I HATE that keyboard layout. If I don't have a numpad, I don't want ANYTHING on the right of my backspace and return keys.PixyMisa - Tuesday, October 23, 2018 - link
I love that keyboard layout. I don't use a numpad, ever, but I have to have the PgUp/PgDn/Home/End keys for programming.Valantar - Thursday, October 25, 2018 - link

I'd like one as a Thinkpad, 80 Wh battery and MX150. Make it happen Lenovo.
