Wait they named a motherboard "godlike" without bursting out laughing? Cringe.
  • PeachNCream - Thursday, June 13, 2019 - link

Most gaming branding is really childish and stupid, but you have to consider the target audience of 18-35 year old man children still living at home with their parents driving for Uber to have just enough to pay for their computer while leaving the rest of their living expenses, chores, and responsibilities to their parents because they just know they're going to become the next YouTube millionaire by streaming games and making "so-and-so reacts to this video that got actual millions of views" videos.

Hmmm... sounds like somebody had a bad break-up with a man-child gamer? Or maybe you're just jelly that you don't have such a sweet setup.

Could be worse... they could be NEETs.
  • PeachNCream - Sunday, June 16, 2019 - link

Actually, my ex was a NEET so I guess that basement-dwelling man children that drive for Uber are an improvement as there's at least acknowledgement of a need for employment.
  • mode_13h - Sunday, June 16, 2019 - link

Well, I'm glad it's an ex and not current.

Though I jest, you have my sympathy.
  • mode_13h - Sunday, June 16, 2019 - link

I sometimes wonder if I could've tread that dark path, had the option ever been available to me.

A long time ago, there was an anime series (Welcome to the NHK) that basically concluded the best thing for NEETs was to be forced out into the world, get a job, and start taking on responsibilities.

I work in an investment bank in Tokyo but tbh life was better when I was a man child in late teens living with my parents in a small Irish suburb gaming the nights away.

BC sniffing coke off a hookers ass in Roppongi is no fun? If that doesn't float your boat, go back to your old ways in your spare time and go visit Akihabara LOL
  • mode_13h - Friday, June 14, 2019 - link

It's not like professionals don't still harbor old hobbies... anyone commenting on here probably hasn't left such things too far behind.

The issue is more one of time and energy. Also, the friends I had who were into most of that stuff have also filled their lives with other things.
  • Manch - Monday, June 17, 2019 - link

I know, I was only joking. Living in Tokyo you can get the extreme of almost any hobby or indulgence.
  • mode_13h - Monday, June 17, 2019 - link

If I were ever in Tokyo, I'd definitely try to go. I wonder to what extent it's been affected by the rise of online shopping. And I'd imagine smart phones and streaming TVs haven't been kind to the various electronics and gadget shops. But surely worth a visit, nonetheless.

    :D
I would say bachelor/ette more than anything else, only because I am one of the types you listed above BUT I take care of myself at the end of the day.

probably explains why am using a many year old system and am on the last legs of getting a "shed" installed that will be full off grid and I will be able to run "any system" I want at that point....

Ryzen 3850x, RX 5700 XT(X) 32-64gb ram(is 64 scales etc properly, or if not like price, am just going 16gb ^.^
  • Manch - Friday, June 14, 2019 - link

You're going to install a shed in your parent backyard to become independent?
  • mode_13h - Friday, June 14, 2019 - link

    LOL! Yeah, WTF?
  • powerwiz - Tuesday, June 18, 2019 - link

Sounds like your describing your pathetic self. Lay off the peaches and cream. Remember your mouth is not a vacuum cleaner for food,
  • PeachNCream - Tuesday, June 18, 2019 - link

I wasn't describing you in specific, but take it personally and get nerd-enraged over it if that's your thing little one.
  • mode_13h - Wednesday, June 19, 2019 - link

Relax, and consider there's probably something behind powerwhiz' reaction.

If you're gonna go there (i.e. talking about people's situations), you've got to be ready for some blow back. But, on the other hand, powerwhiz kinda outed himself as a basement dweller. So, there's that.

Where have you been? Gaming hardware has been named like this for years. The cringe factor will only accelerate as the supply of only somewhat cringe names continue to dwindle.
  • mode_13h - Thursday, June 13, 2019 - link

Yeah, I had a similar reaction, when I first encountered that branding.

At first, I assumed they'd misplaced their thesaurus, because I think "divine" sounds a lot more natural. However, maybe "god-like" sounds better to their ears, or "divine" sounds like something bad, in Chinese.
  • khanikun - Friday, June 14, 2019 - link

Then they can make a pink version for females and call it "angelic"
  • surt - Thursday, June 13, 2019 - link

I'll wager right now that it has more pci lanes than Jehovah.
  • twtech - Friday, June 14, 2019 - link

I don't care what they call them really - I just wish the trend of RGB everything, and plastic shrouds that look like they belong on kids toys would fizzle out.
  • PeachNCream - Thursday, June 13, 2019 - link

Meh whatever. Rosewill's SRM-01 case for $25 on NewEgg holds components and keeps cat hair off them just as well (better because metal and no exposed PCBs). This thing is just curvature for the sake of acting as a lure for people that will photograph it and free advertise the hardware attached to it. Now if they could curve the motherboard inside the case without breaking traces...nah, that's still stupid. Rosewill wins in the case department if you're building your own PC.
  • Dragonstongue - Friday, June 14, 2019 - link

o7 I was going to say.

A good airflow open air that is covered via dust filter/traps would work well, then you say such.... me I am ok with a "standard" case for the foreseeable future, for the noise and dust reasons more than anything else, I wish my define R6 cooled better, but, cannot truly complain either, it keeps things safe, and gives me a bit of a table up top ^.^
  • mode_13h - Sunday, June 16, 2019 - link

If dust is a concern (and it usually should be), then run positive-pressure with dust filters on the intakes. If heat and noise are of concern, then windows are usually counter-productive. They also add cost and weight.

All my cases are windowless and aluminum. As I replace all fans with Noctua, I don't really care whether any of the included fans have LEDs of any sort. Bonus: with windowless cases, and intake filters, I'm completely oblivious to Noctua's noxious color scheme.
  • Metroid - Thursday, June 13, 2019 - link

I wonder if it can become even more stupid than this.
  • PeachNCream - Thursday, June 13, 2019 - link

This is MSI we're talking about. Just wait around long enough and they will outdo themselves by taking stupid to the next level.
  • jfmonty2 - Thursday, June 13, 2019 - link

I'm less interested in the case than in the fact that they appear to think they can trademark the word "Gaming." Somehow I feel like that isn't eligible for trademark in this context.
  • AshlayW - Thursday, June 13, 2019 - link

    Is this a joke
  • khanikun - Friday, June 14, 2019 - link

I like open bench cases, but I'm not a fan of them putting a curve on it. I do like the design with the ports on the feet. Would be nice if my Thermaltake open bench case was like that.
  • Valantar - Friday, June 14, 2019 - link

    "Case"
  • Manch - Friday, June 14, 2019 - link

Im waiting for MSI to make a dragon shaped case. Name the mobo Komodo. Really surprised it hasn't happened yet
  • mode_13h - Friday, June 14, 2019 - link

Or, they could sell a custom mobo for the Komodo case - the Komodo Mobo.
  • Byte - Friday, June 14, 2019 - link

I don't understand this case. It's curved the wrong way. It looks like you can place it behind your curved monitor, but then you won't get to see it without moving you monitor.
  • mode_13h - Sunday, June 16, 2019 - link

    Exactly!

Maybe you could rig a way to mount a monitor on top of it, but the curvature might not match.

Or, if you have a C-shaped or right-angled desk (perhaps in a windowless corner of a room), I guess you could put it next to your monitor(s). That wouldn't be so bad.
