That’s what all Androids running Oreo show. The Sony handsets do it as well to tell you it’s expecting a fingerprint, but not necessarily in that location under the glass.
I am so happy to see this site because through this site i got an information about a new phone and its details about its features. http://www.anodedisplay.com/
$918.00. While its a nice phone, it really doesn't do anything specs wise to set itself apart other than it's price. S8/8+/Note 8's are coming down in price bc of the impending S9's. In my local area S8 can be had new for $620, + for +$100, and Note 8 for just a bit more. $300 premium for diamond cut....errr marketing bullsh......err....textured grip is a big nope. Nokia like BB is banking on Nostalgia and pricing at a premium their brands can no longer demand.
I agree with you that some phones are overpriced, but there are options all the way down the price stack. You can get a fair amount of a $900 flagship phone's functionality at well under $100 if you don't mind accepting a number of compromises. My current Android cost $30 and works fine for me, but not everyone would be satisfied. Quite a few people want to spend up to get a higher end handset and more power/storage/screen/etc to them if that's what they're after.
That's true too. Some people will wait until the price comes down on new handsets to make a purchase that ends up being maybe a generation older, but still perfectly usable.
There's no doubt a brand/design premium on this, but comparing it to a desktop with vastly different manufacturing processes and size is not a fair comparison. You can't put your AMD Ryzen 5-based system in the back pocket of your jeans, its display is far cheaper to manufacture and far lower quality & pixel density than the phone's, it doesn't have an integrated imaging system or LTE radio, its chassis is vastly cheaper to produce... the list just goes on. I'm not saying I love paying USD$1000 for a phone - but it always surprises me that people are surprised when the premium end of the single most important device class in most peoples' lives hits 4 figures. Of course it does.
There are great $500 phones, from OnePlus, Essential and Motorola just to name a few.
There are great $300 phones.
But there's a pretty good reason this and other flagships are $900+
Question is whether that price in Euros includes VAT. North American prices usually don't include sales taxes while European prices usually do, which can make comparisons misleading.
When Apple stated the iPhone X would be £999 in the UK, and $999 in the US it made newspaper headlines for being a record discrepancy. Thing is the UK price includes a 20% VAT, which offsets much of the exchange rate.
Nokia will have to specify if the announced price is with or without tax to draw conclusions with any certainty.
Welp, if the price is without VAT(which is unusual to list it that way) then here in DE it will be 892 after TAX which makes it an even more horrible buy.
The pre-VAT iPhone X was €833, and Nokia does not have the brand/lifestyle cachet anymore to get that close in price.
Using last year's guts in what is supposed to be the halo product for the brand won't help sell it to the spec snobs either, so I wonder what the strategy will be to engage public interest.
Not sure if the camera is better, or if that plus official IP67 and microsd makes up the difference from a OP5T or another equivalent (spec-wise but cheaper phone).
Curve on the front display? Instant nope. Who exactly is asking for these curved left and right edges on the front of the display? Samsung phones sell well because of the 1 million other features they offer, the curved front is a detraction, not something to copy!
Ha. I thought we'd forgotten about the S6. Seems to me the numbers were the other way around with more regulars selling than the useless edge version. The edge is a joke IMO and serves absolutely no purpose.
I'm no longer a fan of any Samsung phone (frequently use and don't like the S8 either) but that thing was - and still is - an embarrassment to phonedom.
I wonder the same thing, why is this even a thing... thats like wanting a curve edge on my TV, or monitor.. Why.. its so much extra money, an extra edge to damage. makes no sense, just looks cool when you look at it.. thats it.. lol.. its an effect.. expensive, overrated effect.
Are you sure about the headphone jack on the 8? Other sites were reporting it missing. Hope you're right, though, that Nokia isn't following this stupid anti-customer trend of dropping it.
The design is a direct imitation of Samsung Galaxy S6. And they are asking a lot of premium for an IP67 engineered device and the irony is the Nokia 7 Plus has a headphone jack this flagship doesn't. I wonder who will buy this device for that steep price over the Samsung S8 which doesn't have any hump has a headphone jack better display quality since this one has LG pOLED which has been criticized for it's banding vs the Samsung AMOLED, which will have a reduced price now that S9 has launched.
So they are picturing themselves as some kind of Pixel rehash with the Android One no headphone jack and steep price, Downside is no BL unlock. Exynos Samsung on the other hand has it.
I would say "manufacturer" is a stretch. Clicking through their linkedin people I don't see a single engineer. The only "Factory" online looks to be assembly operations to skirt import/duty laws where required.
They are a straight up ODM buyer. Spec a phone, email logo, make sure their check/credit clears... out pops phones.
Foxconn does the R&D and the HMD is the patent holder, development and marketing and sells, they have the agreement with Microsoft, Seems like these Chinese obsession of Apple's strategy can be clearly seen on the omitting of the headphone jack and bumping up the camera module and glossy finishes. Form over Function.
HMD is only using them as a shell, Even that Zeiss marketing is lame. As if their lenses alone will do the magic, We all know how the Nokia did all that hard work with PureView IP. HMD doesn't have any of it. Heck Apple hired the key person behind that project after Microsoft destroyed Nokia completely and dissolved everything and still manages to deliver at mediocre level. And Microsoft having ClearBack, PureView etc shuts down the Windows Phone, thanks to that Nadella going only for SaaS models.
Too bad I remember Chevron for Windows Phone and the old HTC HD2 with .cab and registry keys type OS which really feels like advancement than the lockdown what we have from Apple and Google's CTS,VTS etc..
Every other site is reporting that the N8S does not have the jack. Seems like Anandtech screwed up this one. Gives you lots of confidence in their "hands-on" reporting, right?
I was at the booth earlier talking to some of the PR people and some dude just came up with a scale and asked if he could weigh it, before the PR person could answer he had already put it on the scale, having a quick peep over the side it looked like 180g
Hm, I don't know, Nokia's devices are looking more interesting than ever, now they're no longer wed to Windows Phone. This looks like a decent android phone. I just wish we could see some variation in the market in terms of design. Bring back sliders and flip phones and stuff.
still have a samsung s8. But , I will keep an eye on nokia. I think they don't "change" android a lot, so, future updates of android should come much quicker than as with samsung. Samsung only updates their flagships, and it takes forever to get them. If, nokia's update plan is better and the quality is good, my next phone is a nokia
glass front AND back...solid pass even if I could justify the price.
They (Android) still have not totally figure out battery drain issues that many have (including myself) with Nougat 7.1.1 that took FOREVER to actually release by most vendors, and ofc are not "making it up" to the users thus affected, I am in no rush to replace my current phone, seeing as they (Android) decided to screw around with basic functionality such as the ability to use a whole slew of volume booster apps (prior to the "update" given via security patch september of if I recall 2016, the battery drain issues, their default music app absolutely not randomizing very well at all (list of 1000 songs always seems to cycle back to the same maybe 20 or so every few songs)
So much more they could do, instead seem laser focused on screwing around with "simple things" such as removing the day and hour of expected to last battery life, having the ability to turn on 1 of 3 type of battery saving (now is just either on or off, no selections available) as well the "battery optimization" I used to be able to basically leave it on and it helped a great deal, but is essentially fubar now (via Nougat update) and of course, they do not build in to Android a "reverse update" function, which is very odd, takes forever for the OS to "install" it does not keep a "reverse the insall" seeing as is usually only a few hundred mb at most, and to top it off, it does not delete/reset the cache partition in the process, but it sure as hell seems to reset most everything else (which very much prevent it from getting the best battery life it should be getting from a fresh new android version)

Nokia does a decent job updating all their phones -not only the flagship models like Samsung. Of course google updates pixel phones faster, but Nokia isn't to far behind.
still do not get why smartphone makers are NOT using the largest possible battery they can these days...they want to make them all "bling" with quite high end components, an equally high asking price, glass as far as the eye can see and a barely acceptable battery to handle it all.
they should be targeting a minimum battery size of 3500-4500 (or more) unless they are Apple who does their own stupid things (they seem to handle smaller battery better then most...but, hardly worth paying through the nose for anything Apple these days, unless you are Apple or bust type person)
